Job Description

The role of Architect is within the Service Design & Architecture group of Refinitiv, based in Nottingham or St Louis, reporting to the Head of Service Architecture.

  • This group is responsible for the IaaS product and services required globally and the architectural integration to scale application across a hybrid multi-cloud strategy.
  • We are looking for an individual who has the technical expertise and leadership to encourage and influence technologists, set technology strategy for the business, partner with capability engineering to enable development, understand large enterprise principles and collaborate with multiple architecture offices to meet policy standards.
  • Main Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
  • Accountable architect for the Compute, Container and Operating product and services enabling Product Engineering to build application in a hybrid data center model.
  • Providing HCI consultation to the organization.
  • Responsible for next generation storage, virtualized storage and software defined storage.
  • Partner with stakeholders in the business, technology leaders, design teams to align application development with the architecture strategy, including implementation best practices, technology selection, data centre, cloud and infrastructure strategy and partnerships with 3rd parties.
  • Initiates and participates in key activities that cross organizational and business boundaries to deliver business value
  • A key contributor to the Architecture Offices to provide strategy for Refinitiv, contributes to Architecture Communities of Practice and Architecture Councils, leads the development of architectural standards by leading and influencing architecture teams
  • Reviews and recognizes problems and improvements in existing designs to recommend enhancements that improve service, security and performance.
  • Assist Engineering teams to troubleshoots and resolves a variety of complex problem
  • Leads functional teams of technical experts and facilitates integration of their work product into sophisticated systems.
  • Contributes, influences, or advises a variety of projects concurrently
  • Identifies where technology and partnerships can cause a ground-breaking shift in business and works with key business stakeholders to bring it to realization.
  • Recognized internally and externally as an expert on sophisticated technical matters.
  • Stays abreast of technology trends and their potential impact and opportunities on the organization.
  • Identifies the organizational resources, structures and cultural change vital to support the architecture offices and takes ownership as a change agent.
  • Identify and respond to opportunities to solve key technical issues; manage Technology strategy to improve content performance
  • Interprets technical issues for non-technical audiences and vice versa - provides leadership to establish and articulate the vision, strategy and direction of technical architecture based upon business and technical requirements.
  • Develops and delivers formal and informal technical training, presentations, and white papers to both internal and external audiences.
  • The Person:
  • Experience with multiple Cloud vendors (AWS, Azure, Google) in building and maintaining reliable infrastructure and security services
  • Experience with both Windows and Linux administration and systems management
  • Experience in designing virtual infrastructures (i.e. VMware, OpenStack, etc.)
  • Three or more years of recent and related Linux system administration experience
  • Proficiency with virtualization technologies: VMware, vSphere, vCenter Server, ESXi
  • Proficiency with Linux & Windows OS administration.
  • Understands cloud computing platforms such as AZURE and AWS.
  • Knowledge on storage hardware technologies. (i.e. NetApp cDOT and Pure Storage based platforms)
  • Strong configuration and troubleshooting knowledge of Storage Protocols such as CIFS/SMB/FC/iSCSI.
  • Strong knowledge of Hyper-V and VMWare and how it leverages Storage.
  • Strong understanding of Backup, Disaster Recovery, General Vendor Storage, HP Storage, Cloud Storage.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with conflicting priorities in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to operate across organizational boundaries, to influence vendors and technology staff and to have an impact on the internal and external technology community.
  • Has solid understanding of business practices and financial analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills supported by expressive oral and written communication
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills
  • Crucial Skills/Experience Required:
  • A breadth of experience of Technical Architecture with a background as a technologist
  • Systems hardware design, architecture and systems management expertise
  • Experience with Linux and Windows systems in VM environments
  • Familiarity with RedHat Satellite/Spacewalk, Samba, NFS, CIFS and Microsoft MDT
  • Understanding of enterprise-level computing platforms involving virtualization, distribution and high availability
  • Experience with additional virtualization products: Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware HCX, vRealize Automation, VRNI, NSX-T
  • Proficiency with task automation using one of the following scripting languages: Bash, Python, JavaScript, Perl
  • Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools: Ansible, PowerShell, Puppet, vRealize Orchestrator
  • Skills in CI/CD pipelines, practicing Infra as Code, Service Mesh/Routing
  • Experience with horizontal and vertical autoscaling
  • Experience with AKS, EKS or GKE
  • Experience with Kubernetes services, load balancing, networking and security
  • Experience deploying and managing stateful applications and storage in Kubernetes
  • Experience with Agile Scrum Methodology or Agile SAFe
  • Awareness of database administration (Oracle, MySQL, Postgres, MSSQL, MongoDB)
  • Experience in cybersecurity engineering, network intelligence and operations
  • Experience designing and architecting solutions for large systems that are scalable, extensible, highly secure and highly available.
  • Experience leading multiple sophisticated projects and working with business stakeholders.
  • Experience operating in a quickly changing environment and driving change and technological innovation to meet business objectives.
  • Desired Skills/Experience Required:
  • 3+ years Kubernetes production experience
  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise Operating Systems
  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise Storage
  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise Patch ManagementExtensive experience of work
