Job Description

Global Research Pilot Brewery TechnicianWe are recruiting on behalf of a client of ours, for a Global Research Pilot Brewery Technician. To work at their Global Innovation and Technology Center based in Nottingham.The role of Global Research Pilot Brewery Technician is essential for the day to day running of brewing operations. This includes ensuring that all projects can be carried out and completed to the highest quality standards.The technician is responsible for the operation and implementation of procedures and processes that maintain these standards, as well as to ensure that the plant is functioning at its best possible efficiency.Performing brewing and brewing-related activities and delivering high-quality prototypes in the framework of global strategic and exploratory projects, front-end innovations and global/zone development projects are key.Principle Accountabilities· Execute brewing and brewing-related trials like fermentation, filtration, blending, filling in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines.· Operate all processes of the Brewing & Utilities plant (including start up, operation, shutdown and cleaning) according to the work instructions.· Perform the corresponding analyses, like physico-chemical and microbiological, to ensure the right quality and record all data and observations made during the trials.· Apply good industrial practices & brewery standards to ensure quality in trial execution and reporting and to guarantee reliability of results.· Be actively involved in the transformation of a research pilot brewery request into a new product innovation.· Interact with project leaders on project start-up, progress, status, results, etc. · Where appropriate, work with others to develop and write SOPs in the instance of new or improved processes.· Continuously review practices, processes and operations to identify opportunities to improve standards. Work with colleagues and peers to develop these improvements and embed into day to day operations.· Respond rapidly to upstream or downstream triggers that could result in out-of-control process situations. Appropriate problem-solving approaches must be followed.· Ensure equipment and process standard operating procedures (SOPs) are up to date.· Assist in equipment testing, validation and troubleshooting when needed.· Assist in creating test and validation plans.· Identify and address potential risks that may affect the achievement of the project objectives, timeline and quality.· Manage raw material intake and preparation.· Ensure that the used equipment is functional and safe in use.· Contact 3rd parties for e.g. maintenance of equipment, doing services, resolving admin issues.· Assist team members in the execution of their tasks.· Perform housekeeping tasks and follow safe work practices. Unsafe work practices must be identified and corrected. · Help guarding and improving safety, quality, cleanliness and order in the pilot facility.· Support the Global Research Pilot Brewery Excellence Programs (e.g. VPO/TD Pillar).· Assist in administrative tasks like e.g. creating purchase orders, planning, duty reporting.· Support the interaction with the University of Nottingham.Education & experience· Graduate or masters degree in brewing, relevant applied science or engineering.· Practical brewing, packaging and lab experience is an asset.Competencies· Capability to independently plan, organize and execute trials and experiments.· Result-oriented with respect for quality and timing; attention to detail.· Pro-active attitude, problem-solving and hands-on mind set.· Team player with good interpersonal skills and flexibility to adapt to a fast-changing environment.· Ability to interpret/analyse test results and provide feedback to the requestors.· Ability to integrate and generate internal/external best practices to improve processes/tools/ services/ways of working.· Practical mind set and pro-actively seeing tasks that need to be done (manual work, technical operations, analytical reporting, safety, 5S).· Good oral and written communication skills.· Fluency in English; other language skills are an additional asset.· Advanced computer skills; knowledge of standard software programs (Word, Excel).Keywords; Brewery, brewing, research, projects, technician, investigation, exploratory, development, engineering, science.
