Job Description

Role: Facilities Manager Salary: £12.50 - £14.26 (depending on experience) with time and a half on Saturdays and double time on Sundays Location: Nottingham Hours: General business hours Duration: 3 months with potential to be extended The RoleThe management of the day to day Facilities services within the Secure Unit. A high-security custodial establishment delivering the care and rehabilitation of some of the most dangerous and volatile young people in the Country. A facilities service which encompassesthe Site Electricians, Housekeeping, Laundry, Care-taking, Grounds maintenance, Security, the work of the Site Technicians, Health and Safety involving risk assessment, and including the responsibility for the provision of training to Staff. Responsibilityas an 18th edition qualified electrician to maintain & update electrical systems site wide. To manage, delegated projects or parts of projects with regards to the Secure Service buildings, without compromising security. Duties:

  • To be responsible for the management and budgetary control of all delegated resources associated with the delivery of the Facilities services; to set targets for operational and financial performance ensuring adherence to the Councils values and Unit policies.
  • To lead, manage and direct operational Facilities staff, ensuring that all services are provided efficiently and effectively, within available resources and in accordance with Council policies and principles.
  • Progress jobs and monitor feedback, maintain records relating to contractors jobs, including checking and certifying accounts, preparation of reports, liaison with external consultants/ statutory undertakings and analysis of feedback information as required.
  • Carry out the management of the facilities budgets, issuing cost of works estimates, ensure works are completed satisfactorily, authorization of payment on completion of works.
  • To be responsible for managing and identifying resources, skills and knowledge necessary to fulfil all statutory obligations associated with the delivery of the Facilities services with particular emphasis on electrical/networking & security
  • To develop, implement and keep under review, systems for ensuring the quality of service provided by the Facilities services in accordance with agreed benchmarking indicators under the terms of the Ministry of Justice contract.
  • To manage and monitor the co-ordination, commissioning and implementation of delegated capital projects or parts of projects associated with refurbishment initiatives within the Secure Unit, without compromising security.
  • To have a working knowledge of relevant facilities IT systems for the Secure service.
  • To undertake laid down Fire training for Care staff, Teaching, Admin and Facilities staff. When required to do so.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that all Firefighting equipment is properly maintained.
  • To have day to day responsibility for the management systems associated with the allocating, issuing, and tracking of keys and door entry access within the Secure service for all staff disciplines.
  • Under the direction of the Deputy Manager (Head Of Support Services) to provide advice and training to Care staff, Teaching staff, Admin and Facilities staff with regards to security matters relating to the buildings and grounds.
  • To be responsible for the management, maintenance and issue of the personal safety system thus ensuring that risk to all staff employed within the Secure Service is minimalized.
  • Under the direction of the Deputy Manager (Head of Support Services), assist with the management of the computerized Building Management System ensuring requirements laid down by the Ministry of Justice are achieved.
  • To act up as Deputy Manager (Head Of Support Services) in periods of absence.
  • To manage and monitor the co-ordination, commissioning and implementation of delegated capital projects or parts of projects associated with refurbishment initiatives within the Secure Unit, without compromising security.
  • To have a theoretical plus practical & procedural working knowledge of relevant facilities & security IT systems across the technical & specialist areas of a secure service. To strategically manage such systems in house.
  • Must have experience in management including financial responsibility.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and to manage change is essential, as are good communication skills and an ability to present clear instructions, written reports and letters.
  • Knowledge of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health and the practice of Risk Management in the designated service area is essential.
