Embedded Systems Engineer - Nottingham and Remote working available - We are working with a Nottingham based consultancy firm who are looking to expand their team. The position will be reporting to the Engineering manager you must be an expert in software engineering combining a 2:1 or 1st Class Degree in Computer Science or similar with at least 5 years commercial design experience. It is anticipated that you will architect, write and develop code for microprocessors and microcontrollers (mainly Arm Cortex-M and 8051). Due to the variety of the role this could be bare metal, with an RTOS or Linux, depending upon the project and product. A working knowledge of C, C++, RTOS, Linux and Python are highly desirable. You will approach each design activity with a customer focussed, high quality mindset. Delivery time estimates, risk awareness, modularity, testability and maintenance are all very important. Products developed are often battery powered and need to be very frugal with their energy usage. You will have a experience of on and off board connectivity including MQTT, USB, Modbus, I2C, SPI, and LTE. Additionally familiarity with Bluetooth, Zigbee, Thread, 6LowPan would be beneficial, as would an awareness of security for internet connected devices. Test driven development, source control, regression testing and robust release management are needed for every project to ensure software releases are high quality. It is also desirable but not essential to have an appreciation of electronics, be able to find your way around a schematic and datasheets and will be happy setting up a power supply, power analyser, oscilloscope and spectrum analyser - even if that is just to prove that the issue is in hardware! If you feel you have the right skill set and would like to hear more, then please give me a call or send me a copy of your cv for me to review.
