Job Description

Company DescriptionSnook is on a mission to design a world that works better for people.We work with organisations to design more effective services which help people thrive. We do this by engaging with users, building digital products, training our clients, and much more.Snook started as a service design company in 2009. In the past five years, we have become a multidisciplinary team and scaled to more than double our original size, when we started up in Scotland. We are now based in Glasgow and London and our team is approaching100 people. And weve worked with brilliant clientsfrom Cancer Research UK and Tesco to Hackney City Council and the Scottish Government.One of Snooks core missions is Next Era Government. We strive to ensure that human needs are at the centre of government services design and delivery. We are the User-Centred Design partner for multiple government agencies, including Home Office, Departmentfor Education, NHS Digital and NHSX. Working in these sectors will give you valuable experience of applying GDS standards and preparing for GDS Service assessments. We also work with local government and third and private sector organisations.This role provides the opportunity to work across these sectors while receiving knowledge and support from other Snooks. Where possible, we rotate people from one sector to another after 3 to 12 months (depending on the project), enabling people to developin-depth knowledge of a variety of sectors.About the roleAs a Content Designer at Snook, you will create user-focused content for services and products to help make them easy to understand and accessible. You will work in a multidisciplinary team that includes interaction designers, user researchers, developersand service designers.Youll use research and evidence to advocate for user needs and develop content that meets them. Youll also work closely with the team to test and iterate content as you go. Youll be comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile way and at every stage ofdevelopment.Youll play a key role in championing the importance of a user-centred design approach with stakeholders. This includes working in the open and frequently sharing the thinking and evidence behind your work.

  • Location: UK-based (this is a home-based role, but you may be required to attend meetings at client offices or Snook/NEC sites once in a while)
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Salary: UK £32,292 - £45,908 & London weighting of £35,100£49,900
  • Additional requirements: Right to work in the UK
  • This role requires our staff to go through the UK governments Security Clearance process. Applicants will need to have been a continuous resident in the UK for the past five years.
Job DescriptionRequirementsWere keen to hear from a range of applicants, not just those who have worked in the design or creative industries. You should demonstrate that you are able to meet some, or all, of the following requirements:
  • Design content that meets user needs and makes complex language and processes easy to understand and use
  • Work closely throughout the agile service design phases from discovery to live with user researchers, service designers and interaction designers
  • Engage with users or stakeholders to collate user needs evidence
  • Note take during research sessions and help make sense of the findings
  • Contribute to prototypes, including taking part in usability testing with user researchers, with a focus on content.
  • Work with and guide senior stakeholders and influence decision-making with a strong evidence base of user needs, including presenting
  • Ensure content meets the legislative needs of our clients
  • Contribute to written reports and participate in stakeholder meetings
  • Contribute to our clients design systems, setting standards for content design
  • Understand and implement appropriate style and standards
  • Understand accessibility principles, keeping up to date with best practice for inclusive design and how we can support universal access
  • Contribute to our content design practice
QualificationsYour skills and experienceWere keen to hear from a range of applicants who can demonstrate some, or all, of the following skills and experience.Experience and skills in:
  • Creating user-centred content for products and services at different stages of their development
  • Using user research and evidence to inform the design of content and user journeys. This could include interviews, qualitative and quantitative data and desk research
  • Identifying user needs and converting them into accessible content
  • Writing, editing and publishing user-centred content for digital audiences
  • Using metrics and user feedback to iterate content
  • Working in an agile way and at pace
  • Working with and influencing policy makers or legislative stakeholders to agree on statutory or legal requirements
  • Championing user-centred design practice
  • Working in a highly collaborative way, as part of a team with other designers as well as with stakeholders
  • An understanding of the UK governments Service Standard and the role of content designers within this
