Job Description

TITLE:WORKSHOP OPERATIVEBASED: North West of Norwich City CentreSALARY: Based on experience £9.52 and £10.17, this is based on a 40 hour week with the opportunity of overtime.JOB ROLE:To assist with or complete the construction, production and assembly of fabricated products and affiliated clients products using a variety of hand or power tools, complying with assembly methods and new solutions will be developed through close liaison withcustomers and in accordance with agreed fabrication principles and procedures.SALARY:Based on experience £9.52 and £10.17, this is based on a 40 hour week with the opportunity of overtime.HOURS: Basic hours 8:30am5:00pm MonFri lunch 1:00-1:30pmNormal working hours are 7:00am6:00pmDue to seasonal variations within the business these hours may be increased in the Winter, or reduced in the Summer.HOLIDAYS: 32 days per annum, including 8 days for public holidays, 3 or 4 days to be taken over Christmas shut-downKEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTIBILITIES:Essentials of the role:1. Workshop Operative: To assist with or complete the construction, production and assembly of company productsusing a variety of hand tools or power tools, complying at all times with clients defined safe practices and methods To fabricate and assemble sub-assemblies with sufficient lead time to enable others to completeproducts as scheduled Liaise with the Workshop Manager, to implement work schedules to ensure the timely completion of all sales orders Ensure a high standard of quality production with continuous improvement, reporting any problems or potential problems to the Workshop Manager Train to be able to carry out the maximum range of tasks, for which they are capable, within the workshop department Comply with all aspects of the clients Health and Safety procedures at all times, ensuring any concerns are brought to the attention of the Workshop Manager without delay Ensure that all defined personal protection equipment is utilised within the workshop or for the safe use of hand held tools e.g. hand routers, grinders, etcThe ideal candidate will have a good engineering aptitude and will be of a practical nature and work ethic. Support, assist and work with the Workshop Manager and other machine operators / finishers, CAD designers and other production operatives in a positive constructive manner to both help produce an improving product and advance your personal skills Liaise closely with other production functions to resolve assembly queries and ensure finished products meet specified standards of design and quality. Actively seek, and take in-house opportunities for skill and knowledge developmentPERSONALITY: A methodical and logical approach to work with a technical aptitude and good problem solving ability Highly organised and able to work under high pressure during busy periods Mature approach, credible, and comfortable in dealing with colleagues and line management. Adaptable, reliable, tolerant, and determined. Good communication skills and able to follow instruction. Well presented with an understanding of good operating practices and ethics. Keen for new experience, responsibility and accountability. Able to get on with others and be a team-player. Self-driven with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality and the correct results.PERSONAL SITUATION: Must have a flexible approach to working hours and be able to work extended hours on occasions when required. Very long hours normally required during Winter business peak (December to March inclusive) Must have clean or near clean driving licence.SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS: Excellent communication skills - able to communicate verbally and via written media. Excellent team skills Understands the principles of engineering and good working practice. Able to work to tight dead-lines and in a busy and focused environment.LITERACY AND NUMERACY: Able to understand basic engineering drawings, methods and terminology.
