Job Description

A leading manufacturing business in Norwich are looking to hire an experienced Toolroom Engineer with a background in Injection Moulding, for their engineering team.The role will see you carry out maintenance, cleaning, repair and servicing of Injection Moulds to ensure the tools are operating to maximum capacity with minimum disruption to production and ensuring downtime does not impact customer orders.Working as an Engineer within the Toolroom you will be responsible for the modification, service and repair of injection mould tools and range of hot runner systems within the business, providing technical support as required.Reporting into the Engineering Supervisor, youll be responsible for:

  • Milling, turning, grinding to ensure there are no imperfections that could affect the overall standard of products.
  • Working to tight tolerances, using CNC mill and manual mills to machine components and cylindrical grinders
  • Undertake TIG welding to repair parts for finishing tools, moulds, and components
  • Repair broken cavities and carry out fabrication work
  • Check tolerances on parts to make sure they are within specification, using CMM measuring equipment, micrometres, calipers, slips and gauges, microscopes and cameras to achieve standard specification.
  • Using testing equipment to check resistances on heaters and manifolds.
  • Carry out rewiring work on tools.
  • Ensure hydraulic & pneumatic systems on tools are functioning
  • Check rotating core systems to make sure that guide bushes and bearings are in specification.
  • Ensure hydraulic cylinders are working correctly
  • Carry out visual inspections, replace parts, carry out checks, clean, lubricate and servicing as required.
  • Diagnose faults using measuring equipment.
  • Complete mould tool evaluations
  • Ensure SOPs are in correct order and new tooling documentation is complete.
  • Additional skills and experience required are:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing
  • 2 years experience working in a manufacturing, production or engineering environment
  • Hands on turning and/or milling experience
  • Understanding of hydraulic principles
  • Injection moulding background (highly desirable)
