Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Technical Author to join a niche market engineering business in Sprowston, Norwich.The role involves providing a focal point to produce technical manuals and training material to support the operation and maintenance of the companys products. Accountable for establishing and maintaining a project plan and for identifying and managingthe critical path for the successful delivery of technical manuals and training material on time, in budget and meeting all quality standards.As a Technical Author, you will be responsible for:

  • Creating, producing, updating and amending technical manuals.
  • Producing draft material and illustrations using technical data, drawings, models and information from engineering documents and by liaison with Engineers/Project Leads for checking and validation by Engineers.
  • Ensuring final documentation is approved and certified before issue to the customer.
  • Completing dispatch procedures including updating the Redistribution and Deliveries Register, competing Receipt Forms, updating the CD Register and adding IETP to Technical Publications area on the server.
  • Document support for contracts.
  • Assisting in all other general documentation tasks in support of contracts.
  • Any other such duties that may be reasonably compatible with the nature and scope of the role.
Essential personal attributes;
  • Experience in producing technical manuals to a military standard (i.e. JSP 180 Series, Def Stan 05-54, BS EN (phone number removed):2012 etc.)
  • A background in the mechanical/electrical field, preferably in a military environment.
  • Familiar with current Ministry of Defence (MoD) documentation procedures and technical publication procedures.
  • Ability to produce technical publications to meet the quality assurance requirements in accordance with BS EN 82079:1 2012 and Def Stan 05-54 Chapter 14, as applicable.
  • Effective communication skills oral and written.
  • Knowledge of data recording, reporting and associated documentation.
  • Highly organised with good administrative skills.
  • A team focused approach with great attention to detail.
Desirable personal attributes;
  • A recognised technical writing/authorship qualification.
  • Working knowledge of the use of Simplified Technical English.
  • Knowledge of producing Interactive Electronic Technical Publications to S1000D.
  • Experienced in MS Office applications including Visio.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and FrameMaker software.
  • A willingness to learn and develop.
