Job Description

My client - a reputable university within Education and Training and the Higher Education industry are looking for a System Storage Specialist - join their site in Norwich and part remotely on an initial 3-month contract!Client DetailsMy client is a university organisation within Education and Training and the Higher Education industry based in Norwich Norfolk.DescriptionThe successful candidate for the System Storage Specialist - Higher Education 3 -month contract role will fulfil the following responsibilities -

  • Delivery ofICT systems including:
    • Upgrading and maintaining existing hardware, firmware, applications and tools, flagging conflicts to the Head of Systems
    • Ensuring appropriate security and backups arrangements are in place.
    • Ensuring that systems are configured and maintained to provide the appropriate security and resilience.
    • Monitoring hardware and system performance
    • Monitoring performance of contractors and suppliers
    • Resolving faults, ensuring appropriate inoperability between systems and providing general support.
    • Ensuring that full systems documentation is produced and maintained.
    • Decommissioning systems and applications at the end of their life cycle.
  • Proactive contribution to the development ofICT systems including:
    • Advising the Head of Systems on the strategic direction and roadmap of this area.
    • Undertaking option appraisals, selecting new systems.
    • Systems design and capacity planning.
    • Installation of new systems, including configuration, testing, migration, training and managing from project to live service.
  • Acting as the technical lead in this area:
    • Provide technical support for the Operations and Service Desk teams.
    • Providing training and documentation to the Operations and Service Desk teams.
    • Validate documentation produced by Operations and Service Desk teams.
  • Ensuring appropriate consultation with faculties and central units about the support and development of ICT systems.
  • Ensuring appropriate process review work and policy redevelopment is built into system changes.
  • Leading small projects or project strands and contributing to projects as required
  • Identifying and sourcing appropriate IT training and consultancy.
  • Keeping abreast of relevant technologies in order to assist with integrating storage solutions into Infrastructure Operations systems.
  • Supplier negotiations as appropriate.
  • Assisting with the development and delivery of ICT systems support strategies with partner institutions as required.
  • Working with other members of the Infrastructure Operations teams to provide and receive the support required to ensure the delivery of areas of responsibility.
Supporting application developers who are typically not expert in operating systems, networking and storage infrastructuresProfile
  • Physical and virtual server hosting (HPE servers, VMware, design and implementation)
  • Data storage (UEA storage/backup infrastructure, storage/backup design and configuration, Office 365)
  • Operating System builds, support and patching (Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux, securing to CIS standards for use across UEA)
  • Authentication services (Active Directory, RADIUS, LDAP, MFA, Certificate Services)
  • System/Operational Monitoring (design and implementation, SCOM)
  • System Management (design and implementation, SCCM)
  • Email services (Office 365, SMTP)
  • End User Devices (Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android)
  • Network printing servers (PaperCut)
