Job Description

SENIOR MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEERI am pleased to be working with a market leading engineering business and global supplier of extremely high quality niche products.This is a brand new role that has been created to support the ever growing needs of the R&D team with the design of equipment for operation in high shock and environmentally challenging situations and it presents a rare opportunity to join this growing businessat a very exciting time in its life.Responsible for the first-class design, building, testing and developing of a unique range of highly specialist niche products, you will be involved in the following;

  • Structural design
  • Responsible for material selection, including non-ferrous metals (aluminium) and polymers
  • Carrying out equipment stress analysis
  • Creating moving assemblies, as well as enclosures and housings
  • Integrating third-party electro-mechanical devices and wiring looms and design bearing housings etc
  • Scientific and mathematical problem solving.
  • Utilising Auto CAD inventor
  • Any other such duties that may be reasonably compatible with the nature and scope of the role.
Essential Personal Attributes
  • Experience of 3D CAD design, testing and problem solving.
  • Proficiency in the use of Finite Element Analysis Software ANSYS for structural design
  • Ability to interpret, create and present technical information to audiences with all levels of technical experience.
  • Ability and willingness to understand wider application concepts, and to deliver a holistic design working as part of a multi-disciplined team, as well as on own initiative.
  • General willingness to expand knowledge into new areas and to challenge oneself.
  • Flexible approach in terms of both task delivery and time management.
  • Willingness to perform hands-on tasks including integration activities on prototype equipment.
  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude and a proven track record of delivery of working mechanical structures for customer or internal development purposes
  • Ability to liaise with supply chain, machinists and fabricators as necessary
  • Strong aptitude in geometric tolerancing, reduction of stack-up, limits and fits and design of complex assemblies
  • Proficient in creation and design records, 2D and 3D CAD data, and mechanical assembly procedures
  • Qualified to Degree Level in Mechanical Engineering/Design (or HND with 5-year+ experience in mechanical design or related field)
Desirable Personal Attributes:
  • Experience of complex systems
  • 3D additive manufacturing for prototype (polymers)
  • Willingness to occasionally travel abroad
