Job Description

School Nurse Location: Quidenham, Norwich, NR16 2NZSalary: £34,102 - £47,882 per year dependant on qualifications and experienceHours: 16 hours per week, Term time onlyWe have a client seeking a School Nurse to join a wonderful school based in Quidenham, Norwich as Curriculum Lead.The school provides flexible day placements for students aged 11 to 16 years with communication and associated difficulties or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. Some may be on the autistic spectrum or have anxieties and difficulties that createbarriers to learning.Main Purpose of the Role: You will be providing the highest level of care and support for all pupils at Aurora Eccles School. And managing the Medical Centre and all associated clinical work.Key Duties

  • Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.
  • Maintain a high standard of nursing care applying evidence-based practice at all times.
  • Carry out assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care without supervision.
  • To provide a safe, secure and happy environment for all school pupils.
  • Supervise the Medical Assistant, and others, in carrying out routine and non-routine medication administration ensuring that the necessary documentation including written consent from parents/carers and Medication Administration Record (MAR) etc. have beencompleted before any medication is given to a pupil.
  • Carry out routine and non-routine medication administration when Medical Assistant absent
  • Weekly Audit of Controlled Drug Book and MAR charts with Medical Assistant ensuring that MAR instructions are completed according to policy and procedure and ensuring entries correspond
  • To ensure the safe storage, supply and administration of drugs including controlled drugs and therapeutic substances in accordance with the Aurora Groups Policies, Procedures and Guidelines and comply with legal requirements at all times.
  • To promptly and effectively communicate relevant changes in pupil health and wellbeing status to the wider school team, eg. SLT, Clinical Team and Class Teacher as required and as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, medical professionals, and members of the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicate with pupils, parents and carers on emotional and sensitive issues and have the ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of the pupils and parents.
  • To act as the pupils and or parents/carers advocate and ensure that the pupils health, developmental and emotional wellbeing are monitored and any concerns are raised with the Safeguarding, SLT and Clinical Team as required.
  • To be competent in managing emergency situations including directing other members of staff and pupils.
  • To be competent in clinical skills including enhanced practice relevant to the needs of the pupils, such as Diabetes and Epilepsy management.
  • To have full management responsibility of the Medical Centre.
  • To line manage and supervise the Medical Assistant.
  • Responsible for ensuring that asthma register, epilepsy register, allergy register and students with Individual Health Care plans, are up to date and shared with others in a timely manner.
  • Responsibility for sharing information allergies, especially food allergies, with catering team, any staff involved in preparing food such as the Food Technology teacher and Responsible staff in Communication Cafe, as well as education teams. Ensuring thatappropriate visuals are in place in Refectories, Food Technology rooms and any other spaces where food is prepared to be consumed to ensure easy identification of students with food allergies.
Qualifications Essential Registered General Nurse (Adult or Paediatric)Valid NMC RegistrationDocumented evidence of continuing professional developmentDesirable Educated to degree level or equivalent post registration clinical course.Mentorship qualification (e.g., ENB 998 or equivalent)Relevant first aid qualification, e.g., FAW or Paediatric First AidExperience Essential: Experience of working in a school environment or working with childrenExperience of working as a member of a team but is also able to work autonomously.Experience of teaching and assessing other staff membersAbility to coordinate and deliver care and work with other agenciesDesirable: Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs such as ADHD, ASD and SEMHExperience of line management and / or supervisionSkills: Ability to understand a broad range of facts and information quickly and make safe decisionsEmbrace change, viewing it as an opportunity to learn and developDemonstrate respect for peoples dignity and provide compassionate care.Ability to work autonomously and be responsible and accountable for own decisionsAbility to work under pressure and to tight deadlinesKnowledge of IT functions and ability to be able to use an electronic pupil record systemQualifications:
