About YMCA Norfolk:YMCA Norfolk’s Muddy Puddles Nursery is a 90 place nursery in the heart of Norwich, for children aged 3 months to 5 years and is committed to the overarching aim of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework which guides the work of all our earlyyears’ practitioners.Role Overview - Nursery Practitioner:The primary focus of the role is to deliver a range of high quality creative and developmental nursery activities in line with policies and practices of the Nursery that meet standards and regulatory requirements.You will be supporting the Room Supervisor and/or Deputy Nursery Manager in providing a high-quality nursery provision, catering for children aged from 3 months to 5 years at the nursery.Responsibilities – Nursery Practitioner:
  • Under the guidance of the Room Supervisor, assist with the creation of a stimulating and attractive environment.
  • Following the guidelines of the EYFS framework and Nursery policy, assist with the delivery of a programme of activities which suit the children’s stages of development.
  • Always provide and maintain close supervision of the children in your care while they are both indoors and outdoors as well as at mealtimes.
  • Act as keyworker, observe and record development & progress in individual portfolios or a weekly diary (depending on age group) for each child within their key group using Care Connect.
  • Develop positive trusting relationships with parents/carers, encouraging them to be actively involved in nursery life, liaising in a friendly, professional manner, and providing an effective flow of information, knowledge, and expertise.
  • Ensure that room registers, signing in/out sheets, children’s nappy charts, diaries and progress charts are maintained on a regular basis.
  • Provide and encourage the children to eat a healthy balanced meal and drink water/milk as appropriate.
  • Always ensure the general cleanliness of the children as well as nappy changing/toilet areas and food service areas.
  • Share responsibility for safeguarding all children within the nursery and ensure the Room Supervisor is made aware of any incidents affecting the welfare of the children.
Requirements:
  • Be able to help plan and organise activities in line with childcare frameworks that deliver high quality nursery provision.
  • Possess a good level of applied written and verbal communication skills.
  • Express a genuine concern for the development and care for children regarding their physical, emotional and intellectual needs.
  • Hold a positive approach to the management of children’s behaviour.
  • Have the ability to write clear concise records on Care Connect.
  • Possess a Paediatric first aid certificate or willingness to acquire.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and an understanding of the EYFS framework.
  • Express an understanding of the physical and emotional needs of young children.
  • Understand Health and Safety practice and legislation within a nursery setting.
  • Qualification in childcare (either unqualified, level 2, or Level 3)
