Job Description

Our client, a leading independent Oil & Gas operator, based in Norwich, are currently seeking an Network Technician to join their team on full time, permanent basis.The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have an excellent work ethic, be focused and meticulous.Flexibility is essential, an ability to think out of the box and push their ideas forward. They need to love what they do, be curious with each issue and strive to find the best solution. This a very practical role, the more hands on the better!As the Network Technician, you will manage and support a variety of systems, working daily to troubleshoot, monitoring your environment, installing, configuring, cabling and labelling, seeing jobs through from start to finish.Strong practical network skills rooted in IP are essential, along with hands-on firewall, security and VoIP experience. This is a demanding yet rewarding role and you will need to be flexible in your approach, the ideal candidate will seek opportunitiesfor continual improvement and think outside of the box to comply with all relevant cybersecurity guidance and regulation.This is a full-time role based out of Norwich with frequent travel to UK Operational sites, including offshore assets. You may be called on for out-of-hours business critical events and form part of an on-call rota.Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Project support on Southern North Sea Network refresh (Onshore & Offshore).
  • Use the IT Helpdesk system to receive requests and carry out troubleshooting and changes to the network
  • Involvement in Network migrations from serial to IP where the opportunity presents itself.
  • Network equipment monitoring through PRTG.
  • Liaise with Group Network and IT department for 3rd line escalation.
  • Liaise with WAN service providers for installations and issues.
  • Ensuring assets are recorded correctly in our Equipment database.
  • Managing backups and spares.
  • Testing and performing recovery.
  • Updating network diagrams with relevant changes.
  • Supporting the offshore Telecoms team with equipment failures and replacement preparations.
  • Liaise with Telecoms team regarding radio links between sites which carry the network.
Experience:
  • Cisco IOS switching and routing, OSPF (essential)
  • Network Security and Firewalls
  • Monitoring and analysis tools
  • VoIP
  • BGP, VRF, mGRE, DMVPN in VRF environment (preferred)
