Job Description

Applications are invited for a Microbiome Technician to join the Laboratory of Dr Falk Hildebrand in the Gut Microbes and Health Programme at Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.The role:This is an ERC-funded position about large longitudinal studies running at the Quadram Institute, the leading centre in the UK for the study of interactions of the gut microbiota and the host.Join a technical support team and be responsible for oversight and project management for the PEARL-AGE study, and conducting and coordinating recruitment activities of the study.The Microbiome Technician will be mostly responsible for drafting, revising and submitting ethics applications/amendments, obtaining the human samples (e.g. preparing and processing of the Risk Assessment documents, consultation with the patients, transfer of the samples, coordinating with the technical support team and Endoscopy Facility in Quadram Institute). The Microbiome Technician will be key to ensuring the laboratory support provided to these studies operates safely and efficiently by maintaining stock control, running quality control and assurance procedures and following local health and safety policies.The ideal candidate:We seek a candidate interested in human microbiome, with experience in the preparation of SOPs, COSHH and Risk Assessment and isolation of DNA from human samples.Wetlab skills are not essential, but preferred since the candidate is also expected to take a role in the processing of samples for DNA extractions.Additional information:Salary on appointment will be within the range £25,315 to £30,875 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
