Job Description

Mens Mental Health Support WorkerNorwich£25,000 per annum Pro Rata22.5 hours per week, initially a Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2023It is an Occupational Requirement that applications are open to men only, as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1, Paragraph 1, of the Equality Act 2010.About us:MensCraft provide support services to men who are at risk of suicide, and activities, purpose and connection that supports the wellbeing of men and boys. Our vision is to enable men and boys to explore and develop positive masculinity, increase their self-worthand motivation, improve their communication and social skills and create stronger, respectful and supportive relationships.The Role:Working as part of Norfolks Suicide Reduction Strategy, the post holder will be responsible for supporting and mentoring men of 18+ who are experiencing difficulties leading to suicide ideation.We currently have an excellent position requiring the skills of a case worker / counselling skills covering Norwich. You will mostly based at our Centre in the city. This is a motivating opportunity to not only support individuals at the edge of crisis,but to empower them, helping them to practice positivity and self-worth through meaningful activities and social connections.Role responsibilities of the Support Worker:

  • Identify and implement strategies to enable individuals to overcome barriers and ultimately to exit patterns of suicide ideation
  • Manage a caseload of clients and lead on-going support and direction for clients
  • Support men via key-work, crisis intervention work, case recording, face to face work, group work, advice giving, advocacy and other interpersonal work
  • Support and mentor those experiencing suicide ideation, addressing the issues in hand, considering social, emotional, physical and psychological factors, as well as considering their wider family and community context
  • Identify and create a variety of positive activities that men will engage in
  • Adopt an assertive and encouraging outreach approach to those who are reluctant to engage with support services
  • Make referrals to relevant specialist support
  • Ensure that complex and/or high risk cases are escalated and managed appropriately
  • Ensure that required paperwork and monitoring is completed
Person Specification: We are looking for approachable, positive, and knowledgeable individuals with a genuine passion for improving lives who will ideally have the following:
  • An understanding of the complex issues contributing to suicide ideation, and the impact on the lives of individuals and families
  • Comparable experience in effectively supporting men via key-work and strengths based positive activities
  • Ability to deliver effective support services to a range of vulnerable people
  • Knowledge of a range of approaches to key working and case working with service users
  • Ability to work independently using own initiative
  • An understanding of the importance of supportive relationships and fulfilling lives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Honesty, reliability and flexibility
