Job Description

Head of Technical and R&D | PPE Manufacturer | SW NorfolkZachary Daniels Recruitment are exclusively retained to recruit a Head of Technical and R&D for our well-established client who manufacturer PPE and Respiratory equipment.As Head of Technical and R&D you will report directly to the CEO and manage a team of 6 direct reports. This role sits as part of the senior leadership team with board responsibility.The purpose of the role is to gain and maintain an in-depth understanding of the Personal Protection Market (PPE) and our clients role and product relevance within it as an above the neck protection specialist. As Head of Technical you will be expectedto establish a pipeline of NPD for our client in order to keep it at the forefront of developments within the sector, establishing the company as a market leader.You will also be responsible to establish a cross functional NPD team to offer market insight across key stake holders and offer technical support and advice to the business Operation Team concerning tool design, procurement, design, and maintenance.Educational Qualifications RequiredRelevant qualification in design or engineering.Key Skills Required

  • Significant experience in the leadership of NPD and/or engineering teams.
  • Previous experience of injection moulding and assembly.
  • A proven track record of leading the development of innovative and commercially successful products.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Knowledge of the PPE market would be preferred but not essential.
  • An understanding of R&D grant application and associated tax benefits.
  • Experience of intellectual property law and patent applications.
  • Experience of rapid product design methodology.
  • Proficient in statistical analysis of data.
  • Self-motivated and hands on with strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • A creative individual who can develop innovative new product ideas.
  • The ability to deliver new product designs which can be manufactured cost effectively.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver well thought through recommendations for new product development.
  • Able to motivate, problem solve, deal with ambiguity and to prioritise business needs.
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, planning and organisational abilities.
  • A goal-oriented team player who can mentor and lead the team to success.
  • Sound understanding and experience of NPD with an ability to secure commitment from all stakeholders. You will be expected to have a broad knowledge of product engineering and manufacturing.
