Closing date: 18th November 2021 Reference: 1004135We have an exciting opportunity as Head of Directorate to play a pivotal role in the success of the John Innes Centre, supporting our cutting-edge science.About the John Innes Centre:The John Innes Centre (JIC) is an independent, international centre of excellence in plant and microbial genetics. We nurture a creative, curiosity-led approach to answering fundamental questions in bioscience, and translate that knowledge into societalbenefits.The role:The Head of Directorate acts as the interface between the Director and the day-to-day functioning of the JIC, providing support and advice to deliver JICs ambitious plans for the future.You will contribute critically to the delivery of JICs objectives through the review or preparation of proposals, policies or strategy documents for the Director, supporting a range of Directorate projects and initiatives.Working closely with the Director, your role will also include prioritising activities, resolving issues and promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.The ideal candidate:With a biological or life sciences degree, or substantial experience in a life sciences research institute, you will have a broad understanding of the research eco-system, and Government and UKRI strategy for research and innovation. Your experience in scientificresearch will be essential to support the delivery of presentations, proposals and reports regarding JIC activities.Extensive experience of successfully working with and influencing internal and external stakeholders will enable you to establish and maintain strong working relationships across JIC and with external partners.The ability to manage a substantial and varied workload, deliver projects, produce reports, negotiate, resolve problems, mediate and manage important and sensitive issues will also be needed to ensure success in this role.Additional information:A competitive salary and benefits are available.We are an equal opportunities employer, actively supporting inclusivity and diversity.
