Job Description

Offering a friendly and rewarding working environment, meaningful opportunities to make a difference in the lives of young people and a range of benefits, YMCA Norfolk are looking for a Deputy Nursery Manager to support the new Muddy Puddles nursery catering for children aged from 2 months to 5 years.As the leading provider of childcare in the voluntary sector, YMCA Norfolk are passionate about offering a positive environment where all children feel secure and valued, and believe in promoting each child’s strengths to help them to love themselves and others.About the Nursery, Muddy Puddles:In April2021 YMCA Norfolk will be opening Muddy Puddles, an Ofsted-registered nursery based at our brand-new multi-service community centre on Aylsham Road, also featuring a Community Café and a Soft Play centre.Our nursery will provide a tailored childcare setting that creates a safe, empowering, interactive environment for its learners. We will offer bespoke education to each child, through a positive reinforcement approach to early years’ development.Role responsibilities for the Deputy Nursery Manager:

  • Work closely with the Nursery Manager to oversee the delivery of high-quality nursery services that provide a safe, stimulating and caring child-centred environment catering for the children’s educational and development needs
  • Deputise for the Nursery Manager in their absence, acting as the designated person in line with safeguarding requirements, responsible for coordinating child protection procedures
  • Coordinate childcare staff in planning activities; ensuring these relate to the children’s developmental needs and cover the whole curriculum
  • Actively participate in the care of the children and to work on the nursery floor as required
  • Ensure the nursery is prepared for Ofsted inspections, receives an Ofsted rating of Good or above, and implement recommendations arising from reports
  • Ensure compliance with the Children’s Act 1989, Health and Safety Legislation and the guidelines and requirements set out by YMCA Norfolk, Ofsted and the National Standards
  • Contribute to the development of the nursery operational plan
  • Always ensure that medication is administered and logged in line with procedures and by those qualified to do so
  • Build strong parent/carer relationships through regular liaison with parents, reporting any complaints or issues to the Nursery Manager
  • Maintain staff rotas and monitor the quality of menu planning through liaison with the Nursery catering
  • Ensure spaces are safe and hazard free with a high level of cleanliness and hygiene
  • Assist with budget, resources and administration duties
  • Person specification:
  • A qualification in childcare level 3 or above, and an excellent knowledge of Early Years Foundation Stage and other curriculum
  • Significant experience of managing an early year’s nursery provision
  • Excellent working knowledge and understanding of current childcare legislation, national standards and frameworks
  • A full driving licence with own transport
  • Knowledge of OFSTED standards and experience of inspections
  • A positive approach to the management of children’s behaviour
  • Excellent understanding of cultural diversity in the local area
  • Interpersonal skills with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures
  • Terms of Role and Benefits:
  • £11.50 per hour
  • 22.5 hours per week on a rota basis (there is a requirement to work occasional evenings)
