Job Description

Are you a great communicator and problem solver able to interpret and apply the planning legislation and want to join a dynamic planning compliance teamRole SnapshotYou will be investigating and taking all appropriate action to resolve breaches of planning control and will be monitoring the implementation of development to secure compliance with plans and conditions of consent. Negotiation and communication togetherwith the ability to think outside of the box are key skills necessary to be successful in the role.What you could be part ofThe two Councils receive circa 4000 applications per year, covering a diverse area including urban areas, rural areas and vibrant market towns. We serve approximately 260,000 residents and 10,000 businesses across 161 parishes. Our work therefore also encompassesboth urban and rural planning, residential, retail, commercial and agricultural development.Our One Planning Compliance Team is key to giving integrity to the planning system, investigating breaches of planning control and ensuring compliance with planning permissions.Your strong problem solving, negotiation and communication skills will enable you to effect positive outcomes on breaches of planning control; working alongside complainants, applicants and stakeholders to remedy breaches. You will have a good working knowledgeof the suite of enforcement tools and legislation to inform your work and take any formal action necessary.Working at the Council enables you to be part of an organisation which is proud to deliver high-quality, customer focussed services. Continuous improvement is also vital, and we challengeourselves to develop new and innovative ways to improve the services that make a real difference to peoples lives.What youll be doingInvestigating complaints of alleged breaches of planning control by site inspections, interviews with developers, witnesses, research of planning history, legislation relative tocomplaint/breach and prepare factual reports with plans and photographs.Monitoring the implementation of development and compliance with conditions and legalagreements in particular for those sites not subject to inspection by the councils buildingcontrol officers.Preparing and giving evidence at public inquiries and in the courts.Maintaining computerised record system and filing systems including the collation ofperformance information and statistics.Preparing reports, witness statements, required in connection with the enforcement ofplanning control, and letters in connection therewith. Researching case law when necessary.Serving all statutory enforcement and similar notices including high court injunctions and theservice of summonses.Carrying out all checks for compliance with statutory notices within the terms of the notice and if in breach, take appropriate action including contact with developers, preparation ofprosecution papers, organise and take direct action to secure compliance.You will have experience of a similar or related role in a regulatory environment, and have a full driving licence.Whats in it for youOur package includes:
