It is rare for relatively inexperienced Commercial Account Handlers to get such a superb opportunity to move into managing global risks, especially whilst working exclusively from home. However, in this truly unusual role, you will join one of theworlds largest broking houses and deal with the UK elements of global companies (typically those domiciled in the US or Europe) insurance programmes. Clients are from every conceivable sector, from Power to the Professions and everything in between, and the relationship is ultimately owned by colleagues overseas. However, youll be responsible for managing relationships in the UK, as well as overseeingthe domestic UK programme. You will predominantly deal with clients remotely although, if desired, you will be able to attend some face-to-face visits in order to help build rapport with your clients, as well as your understanding of their businesses.All your clients businesses will ultimately be run from head offices overseas, and they will vary in size and complexity. For example, one of your clients could be a Chinese manufacturer with limited exposures in the UK, that just needs the compulsoryinsurance covers for a tiny sales operation. Alternatively, it could be a white-collar risk that happens to be ultimately owned and managed in Germany but conducts the vast majority of its business in the UK and has extensive exposures covering multiple insuranceproduct lines. You will be dealing with colleagues from across the globe, as well as specialist teams in the UK (such as Marine, Aviation or Credit Insurance), as well as your clients senior personnel based in the UK and overseas. As such, you will need excellentstakeholder management skills, and youll be an accomplished internal networker to ensure that your clients receive a superb up level of service. It is essential that you have a good knowledge of Motor and Liability insurance as a minimum, and ideally thiswill be coupled with a wider knowledge of the commercial insurance market. You must have excellent communication skills and be confident in your ability to negotiate with insurers on behalf of your clients.
