Job Description

We are proud to be working in partnership with Google to bring you this fantastic opportunity for a Central Editor working across all three Project Neon platforms.This is a key leadership role for an news editor with strong management experience. You will have the drive and courage to try new strategies and pioneer audience-focussed content.You will be heavily involved in day-to-day operations and the editorial planning for each local team and will work closely with them to ensure all content is of the highest quality.You will direct and influence the local news agendas and will work with the content teams to determine how they operate daily and pivot those plans when needed. You will also ensure they have the support and resources they need to serve their communities.As the only partnership of its kind in the UK you will feed back your teams’ successes and findings to Google, who are eager to learn more about the UK’s local news ecosystem.Our first Neon website Peterborough Matters launched in February and the Central Editor will be involved in the hiring and onboarding of the two remaining content teams in the coming months.You be heavily involved in directing an audience development strategy in each market and will report to Archant’s Head of Audience.The successful applicant can be based in an Archant office or work remotely. The role will include working evenings and weekends as the job requires. You will be required to step in for each of the Chief Reporters when they are on annual leave and give extra support to the content teams during big news events.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Full qualifications and senior reporter / chief reporter experience
  • Newsroom based background
  • Team management skills (3 years minimum)
  • Deep knowledge and heart for Peterborough
  • Ideas and strategy to develop true audience-focussed content
  • Strengths in digital / online content
  • Passion to build audience, drive ideas and measure success
