The OpportunityCaretaker:Future Education is a small Specialist Independent School part of Future Projects Charity. All of our young people have SEMH needs along with associated behavioural difficulties, and many have additional special educational needs. The site provides bothacademic and vocational facilities along with a range of therapy provision allowing our students engage with learning and acquire the skills and qualifications they need to go on to lead happy fulfilled lives.We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and conscientious site manager to join Future Projects based at Future Education, although working across the Projects other sites in Norwich will form part of the role.Caretaker Responsibilities:Health and safety
  • Contribute to general risk assessment processes, identifying safe working practices and ensuring safety measures are implemented.
  • Undertake regular testing and review of safety arrangements, including regular safety audits and checks, taking immediate remedial action, and ensuring documentation is retained.
  • Provide regular Health and Safety reports to Senior Leadership Team as requested.
  • Where necessary, commission external safety checks, audits, and servicing to improve safety performance and minimise risk.
  • Record and monitor accidents, safety incidents and near misses and analyse trends to drive improvement in performance.
  • Ensure the relevant signage, first aid equipment and other safety materials/resources are in place and up to date.
  • Coordinate safety related training for staff and volunteers, including but not limited to induction, first aid, fire safety.
  • Provide the SLT with professional advice and practical assistance in health and safety issues.
Facilities Management
  • Manage and maintain utility, supply and service contracts for all premises, ensuring continuity of service and value for money.
  • Carry out day-to-day maintenance and remedial repairs in the charitys premises where trained, capable, and safe to do so.
  • Manage and oversee cleaning arrangements ensuring appropriate service levels and cleaning standards.
  • Monitor and replenish office and facilities related consumables in good time, ensuring value for money.
  • Ensure that all items of equipment, plant, and fixed installations owned or operated by the organisation are maintained, tested, and serviced in accordance with best practice and/or the manufacturers instructions and/or regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that adequate safety and protection systems and procedures are in place including but not limited to fire safety, gas, security, and water hygiene.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to the maintenance, servicing and management of the premises and facilities.
  • Under direction plan and organise regular and irregular works including refurbishment, redecoration, and renewals, working with colleagues to deliver on time and in budget.
  • Ensure that all external contractors, suppliers, and providers working with, for, or on the premises meet the necessary quality, regulatory, and safety standards.
  • Manage the security of school and charity sites, managing and controlling access, liaising with contractors and ensuring that security procedures are in place and staff/volunteer training provided.
  • Act as first emergency contact for out of hours security and facilities issues, responding to alarm activations.
  • Monitor and review the condition of the charitys premises and facilities to inform long term refurbishment plans and works, including undertaking regular site-walks and inspections.
Person SpecificationCaretaker:
  • Experience within a caretaker or maintenance role.
  • Previously worked within a school environment ideally.
  • Good administrative and ICT skills
  • Good understanding of legislation and regulatory compliance as it applies to school premises such as Health & Safety, COSHH, Asbestos and Legionella.
  • Confident problem solver

  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a busy team
  • Personal qualities are of paramount importance and the person appointed will be expected to be approachable, professional, flexible and reliable.
