Job Description

IMMEDIATE START £17.00 - £18.00 per hour (plus travel time & mileage)We are recruiting for two *Female Assistant Psychologists to work with our Client; a delightful 12 year old girl who has enduring sensory, motor, communication, cognitive, emotional and behavioural needs arising from injuries sustained at birth. She liveswith her parents and younger sister near Norwich.This young lady has complex needs including cerebral palsy which affects her mobility and fine motor skills, she has associated severe learning difficulties and focal symptomatic epilepsy. In addition, she has speech, language and communication needs. OurClient requires help with drinking, feeding and all personal care including toileting, dressing and self-help, bathing, teeth cleaning etc. She requires constant 2-to-1 adult supervision and guidance in all areas as well as support to help manage behaviourthat can be challenging due to her needs (sensory seeking, disorientation and anxiety).Our Client is a happy and sociable little girl who enjoys the company of lively people with outgoing positive personalities. She particularly loves sensory play, activities with her family which enable her to be happy and engaged at home and she also likesgoing out and about in the community. She especially loves swimming, dancing and listening to music.The Assistant Psychologists work under the close supervision of the lead Clinical Psychologist. The key role of the Assistant Psychologists is to assist the Client, her family and her care team with all aspects of rehabilitation and care. The successfulcandidates will also be expected to implement daily therapeutic programmes that have been designed to promote the treatment by her team of therapists (including Clinical Psychologist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech & Language Therapist, Dieticianand Epilepsy Nurse). This is an opportunity to learn from an interdisciplinary team with a high level of expertise in atypical neurodevelopment. The Assistant Psychologists have a general role in promoting the wellbeing, learning, care and independence of the client and her family in the home and community.The Assistant Psychologists will also support the Clients parents wellbeing with collaborative understanding of the positive behavioural interventions required to meet the Clients complex needs, and aid in reducing the impact of these needs on her parentswellbeing, supporting them to cope with her ongoing complex needs. The family are in the early stages of adjusting to having a full time support team for their daughter and a key part of the Assistant Psychologist role is to provide the sensitive and empathicsupport to help them adjust to this.There will be occasions when the Assistant Psychologists will be required to assist with certain domestic chores, for example helping our client to keep her bedroom tidy and ensuring her equipment is kept clean and tidy. Household tasks will be requiredon a client-related basis only, to help ensure the smooth running of her care regime and to afford her parents the opportunity to spend one-to-one time with her.Our Client and her family enjoy going on holiday and there will be an expectation for the Assistant Psychologist to accompany the Client and her family to provide support and/or accompany the client on independent holidays and short breaks.Working HoursThe Assistant Psychologist roles are 34 hours per week each, worked across a two week fixed rota. There are a number of hands-on hours each week with additional weekly hours spent with the Clinical Psychologist and other members of the MDT as well as onthe maintenance of Client records.Rates of PayMondayFriday:£17.00 per hourSaturday & Sunday: £18.00 per hourPerson Specification

  • A minimum of an Upper Second Class Degree in Psychology (as a main subject) is required or a Lower Second with the addition of a Post-Graduate Degree in Psychology.
  • Previous experience of working with children with special needs and their therapists is essential, together with enthusiasm, patience and a willingness to learn.
  • Candidates should be confident about working within a private home and be sensitive to the needs and wishes of the client and her family.
  • You should be able to demonstrate the need for confidentiality and privacy, have a good sense of humour, be reliable and trustworthy. The successful applicants will receive appropriate training and ongoing support.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence is required with the use of own vehicle.
This position is subject to an enhanced DBS application.*Exemption is claimed under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9.
