Oxford Nanopores sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis (for rapid insights), in fully scalable formatsfrom pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieve short to ultra-long read lengths. Our goal is to enable the analysis of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere. We offer real-time nanopore-based DNA/RNA sequencing technology: accessible, easy to use and fully scalable for any requirement. Reporting to the Senior Director, Translational Applications, you will focus on the development of a menu of tests for the rapid detection of infectious diseases on nanopore platforms. We are currently developing targeted and metagenomic assays for tuberculosis,bloodstream infection and pneumonia. The successful candidate will help expand the menu, develop best practice guidelines for e.g. sequencing bacterial isolates using nanopore and develop/evaluate novel technologies that enable rapid and efficient pathogendetection on our platforms. The position also involves liaising with the Product Development and Oxford Nanopore Diagnostics teams to bring products to market. This role is based from the laboratories in Norwich. Other responsibilities include:- Collaborating closely with clinical, industrial and academic collaborators. - Clinical test concept, design, and evaluation. - Data analysis. - Providing "end user" feedback to bioinformaticians to help generate sample-to-answer applications. - Representing Oxford Nanopore at conferences by providing technical knowledge to customers. - Managerial role for direct reports. What Were Looking For...PhD (or equivalent experience) in a molecular biology-based field with equivalent post-doctoral or industry experience. Background in microbiology or infectious diseases research with experience in clinical translational research and next-generation sequencing (such as genomics and/or metagenomics). You will have supervised PhD candidates and/or staff in industry with significantexperience managing research projects.Youll hold knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas: - Experimental design. - Lab-based molecular biology. - Data analysis skills (R, basic stats). - Presentation skills. - Microbiology culture techniques. - Infectious diseases diagnostics and/or pathogen detection.
