Pay: £10.50 per hour Start Date: 31st August 2021 Gads Hill School requires a capable and organised Technicianto join our small Science team. Full details of responsibilities can be foundwithin the job description but, in summary, the successful candidatewill beresponsible for the preparation and organisation of Science classroom materialsand other resources, providing technical support to teachers and contributingto students learning experience in the subject. Combined Science Trilogy (Double award) is currentlycompulsoryat GCSE but we intend to implement Triple Science from September2021. Science in the Senior School is currently taught by two specialistteachers, who will be joined in 2021/22 by a trainee. The school currently usesthe AQA exam board. In 2019 the departmentachieved a 93% GCSE pass rate.Gads Hill School requires a Science Technician on atemporary contract for the academic year 2021/22 to provide support to theScience department.Working Hours: 26.5 per week, across 5 days and to be agreed - between8.30am and4pm. The Kindergartentakes children from age three into theNursery through to Year 2. Pupils follow the National Curriculum although thereis a strong emphasis on play, physical education, music and drama with allpupils performing in a number of short productions each year. Theschool placesparticular emphasis on communications and therefore pupils from Receptionupwards receive twice weekly lessons in Spanish and also ICT. The Junior School is two-form entry from Years 3-6. OurJunior pupils receive a high proportion of lessons withsubject specialists; inparticular Modern Languages (Spanish), DT, ICT, Art, Music, Science &Games. By Years 5 and 6 nearly all lessons are delivered by specialist tutors.There is a particular emphasis upon team games and almost all of our studentshave theopportunity to represent the school in fixtures against other schools.Kent and Medway local authorities operate the 11+ systemwhereby the top 25% of pupils are offered a place in a grammar school either inthe Kent or Medway area. The remaining 75% of pupilsare offered a place ineither a local authority, non-selective school or an academy. Although many ofour Year 6 pupils take the local 11+ examinations each year for a grammarschool place, the majority of our pupils remain at Gads Hill for theirsecondary education.The growing success of our Charles Dickens ScholarshipAward, providing financial assistance to the most able pupils from our ownJunior School and many from the wider community, has resulted in thedevelopment of highly capable and ambitious cohorts at Key Stage3. Ourstrength is to make the most of our small class sizes and supportive atmosphereto add significant value to every individual. The Senior school generally has a two-form entry. Thecurriculum is relatively broad, with all pupils taking a spread of subjectsincludingArt, DT, Food & Nutrition, Spanish, Computer Science, Music andDrama. Students choose a range of options at the conclusion of Year 8. Theyfollow a core of Maths, English (Literature & Language), Combined Scienceand CCF (BTEC - Teamwork & Personal Development).As options they maychoose from History, Geography, Spanish, Art, Food & Nutrition, DT,Computer Science, Music, Drama and PE. Our GCSE curriculum is broad, suits mostpupils and provides a firm foundation for sixth form and university entry.At present thereis no sixth form education at Gads andpupils currently depart for local schools, colleges or other independents.
