Job Description

The General Medical Council (GMC) helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they arenot met.As part of this role, the GMC: decides which doctors are qualified to work in the UK oversees UK medical education and training sets the standards doctors need to follow throughout their careers where necessary, takes action to prevent a doctor fromputting the safety of patients, or the publics confidence in doctors, at risk.Taking the lead on the management of personal data and information governance, youll be instrumental to ensuring best practice across our whole organisation.When it comes to informationgovernance and access, a host of colleagues and external stakeholders will rely on your advice and guidance. Recognised as a subject matter expert, youll enjoy scope to help shape both our data and information systems strategies. Youll also support the provisionof a data protection impact assessment framework.Managing and motivating a small, specialist team, youll work with internal customers to establish their data requirements, review information governance issues, and identify appropriate third-party data sources.Along the way, youll forge relationships with a range of organisations, with which we exchange data for regulatory purposes. To join us, youll need in-depth current knowledge of personal privacy and information access legislation including the UKGDPR, DataProtection Act 2018, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Human Rights Act 1998. Well expect you to have extensive experience of information governance in a legal, regulatory or healthcare environment.Your track record includes establishing requirementsfor data processing, commissioning legal advice, and producing high calibre presentations and reports. You will project manage a range of information governance initiatives. Flexible working requests will be considered in line with the policy.Due to Covid 19, the successful applicant will commence working from home with a supportive induction package, with a plan to return to an office based role at alater date.
