Post title: Art & Textiles Teacher/TeacherSetting: LeawaysLine manager: Head TeacherSalary: Main pay scaleContract: Full-timeLeaways School is seeking to appoint an Art & Textiles Teacher/Teacher.Leaways School provides a safe learning environment forchildren and young people with social, emotional and mental health difficulties including autism and an EHC Plan. We also have a separate specialist area to support young people on the autistic spectrum (ASC) and a Primary unit taking children from 7 yearsold. We aim to offer as close to a mainstream experience as possible but provide the additional care and support needed around each young person to enable them to thrive. Our mission aims to engage children and young people by: Rewarding positive achievement,behaviour and academic success;Providing children and young people with essential life skills in preparation for adulthood Create and maintain transparent relationships with children and young people, parents and professionals.All Leaways School staff haveresponsibility for the education provision as well as the provision of excellent pastoral care and positive behaviour management strategies, including the use of restorative approaches. The teacher will take lead responsibility for the class, including theprovision of timetables, lesson plans, schemes of work, Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Management Plans (BMPs).Main duties include:Deliver the curriculum to the age and ability group/subject/s that you are delegated to, adapting the curriculumto students with various needs including SEMH and ASC.Be responsible for the preparation and development of teaching materials, teaching programmes and pastoral arrangements as appropriateBe accountable for the attainment, progress and outcomes of pupilsyou teachBe aware of pupils capabilities, their prior knowledge and plan teaching and differentiate appropriately to build on these demonstrating knowledge and understanding of how pupils learnHave a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils, includingthose with special educational needs; gifted and talented; EAL; disabilities; and be able to use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support themDemonstrate an understanding of and take responsibility for promoting high standards ofliteracy including the correct use of spoken English (whatever your specialist subject)If teaching early reading, demonstrate a clear understanding of appropriate teaching strategies e.g., systematic synthetic phonics.Establish a safe, purposeful and stimulatingenvironment for pupils, rooted in mutual respect and establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairlyManage classes effectively, using approaches which are appropriate to pupils needsin order to inspire, motivate and challenge pupilsMaintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessaryBe a positive role model and demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour,which are expected of pupilsHave high expectations of behaviour, promoting self-control and independence of all learnersCarry out playground/lunchtime and other duties as directedBe responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and youngpeople within the school, raising any concerns following school protocol/proceduresEssential criteria includes: Qualified Teacher Status / or eligible to meet the national criteria for QTSQualification to the equivalent of degree level in specialist subjector a related subject Successful experience of SEN teaching, preferably across all age ranges A good classroom practitioner with evidence of setting appropriate expectations to advance learning and to engage and motivate studentsAbility to use appropriatelya range of differentiated teaching and learning strategies for whole classes, individuals and groups which stimulate, challenge, engage and motivate students Experience of line managing teaching assistantsCompetence in ICT including, an understanding ofthe use of ICT in schools and a willingness to develop its use in supporting students with SENIn return we offer a competitive salary and benefits, ongoing opportunities for continued professional development and training, a friendly, passionate and committedteam of colleagues and access to employee perks, including cycle to work scheme, discounts on shopping and cinema tickets, birthday treats, employee of the month award and enhanced pension contributions for qualified teaching staff.We would love to hear fromyou if you feel that you meet the requirements for the role and share our passion and commitment to developing confident and capable young people by meeting their educational, health and social care needs in structured, nurturing school and home provisions.KedlestonGroup Limited is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its children and young people.
