Job Description

Blackstone Recruitment are looking for a Lead Speech and Language Therapist to work in a school in Norfolk.This is a permanent contract to start as soon as possible.About the JobThe role will be working within educational and residential site for children and adults who have a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD. All the children have difficulties with social communication, social imagination, and have restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviour, interests, or activities. The way that these impairments affect the children or adult varies from individual to individual. On the site we have 3 distinct educational units and a variety of residential settings designed to meet the varied needs of our students based on how their autism affects their functionality and typicality.KEY TASK AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • On referral to the provision appropriately assess and match and then formulate plans for children, young people and adult’s integration, taking in to account the identified needs and necessary intervention of service to support the success of each placement based on sound communication and interaction understanding; that employs evidence based practice.
  • Coordinate the consent and referral process required to access the specific modality.
  • To provide specialist assessment to make decisions about intervention options taking into account relevant evidence based research, theory, practice and highly complex factors concerning historical and development processes. Once established assign necessary clinician and complete the informing process to aid familiarisation to the service.
  • If permitted through qualification/certification deliver clinical supervision to employed clinicians.
  • To provide specialist knowledge of speech, language, communication and interaction principles and techniques through advice, supervision and consultation to other members of staff.
  • To work with own caseload and to provide specialist assessment and intervention.
  • To undertake direct intervention with children, young people and adult’s.
  • To provide specialist advice, consultation, teaching and training to external agencies when directed by the RWSM.
  • To be responsible for monitoring and evaluating risk to/from the specific client group within your own caseload and when providing advice and consultation to other clinicians in keep with your Line Management responsibility.
  • To attend and contribute, as a specialist clinician, to multi-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings as appropriate and when required.
  • To work as a key member of the wellbeing/clinical team which informs the education, residential and fostering divisions from a perspective of clinical services.
  • To ensure and coordinate the appropriate liaison with professionals from external agencies in relation to shared cases, including agencies working with the specific client groups and their parents/carers.
  • To communicate and share information in a skilled and sensitive manner with, when appropriate, children, young people, adult’s, families, other professionals and agencies using the highest levels of interpersonal skills in situations which are likely to be highly emotive and sometimes confrontational.
  • To act as a discipline specialist within the wellbeing/clinical team enabling all members to have access to a speech, language, communication and interaction based framework for the understanding and care of children, young people and adults. This may be achieved through advice, consultation, and the dissemination of knowledge, research and theory.
  • Ensure that standards of excellence are maintained, especially in relation to speech, language, communication and interaction programmes for the individuals within the designated services.
  • Job Specifics:
  • Qualification in Speech & Language Therapy
  • HCPC registered as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Supervised experience of working as a trainee Speech & Language Therapist
  • Experience of teaching, training and professional and clinical supervision
  • Experience of multi-professional work with teams or services within the designated specialty
