Job Description

Location:Quidenham, Norwich, NR16 2NZSalary: £8.95-£10.15Hours: 40 Hours per week, Monday-Friday – Term Time Only. Closing Date:26th February 2021The Role:As a Medical Centre Assistant you will be required to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe and compassionate medical and pastoral care in all aspects of your work. You must also provide the highest level of care and support for all pupils at Aurora Eccles School, and to administer medication as required and instructedKey duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Carry out routine and non-routine medical administration as directed by the School Nurse, ensuring that the necessary documentation including written consent from parents/carers and Medical Administration Record (MAR) etc., has been completed before any medication is given to a pupil and in accordance with the Aurora Medication Policy and Procedures.
  • Ensure that a MAR has been completed by the Registered Nurse before giving any routine medication. In the absence of the School Nurse this can be undertaken providing appropriate training and competence has been met.
  • Ensure that any medication errors are reported immediately as per the Aurora Group Medication Policy and Procedure.
  • Ensure safe storage, supply and administration of drugs including controlled drugs and therapeutic substances in accordance with the Aurora Group’s Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, and comply with legal requirements at all times.
  • Update pupil administration systems e.g. School Pod to ensure timely data collection and confidentiality.
  • Effectively use information technology for the benefit of pupil care in accordance with the Aurora Group’s Information Technology Policies.
  • To assist with prompt and effective communication relating to changes in pupil health and wellbeing status to the School Nurse, Clinical Lead or wider school team as appropriate.
  • Promptly deal with equipment failure in accordance with the Aurora Group procedure.
  • Promptly report all incidents or accidents involving pupils, visitors or staff and take appropriate action according to Aurora Group Policy.
  • Ensure the safekeeping of pupil’s property in the Medical Centre such as medication and spare clothing.

  • Medication Management qualification at level 3
  • Hold or be prepared to train for first aid qualification e.g. FAW and/or Paediatric First Aid.
  • Hold, or be prepared to work towards a qualification in care at level 2 or above.
  • Comply with the Aurora Complaints procedure in respect of own area.
  • Experience of working in a school environment or working with children in a care environment
  • Experience of working in a team.
  • Experience of medication management.
  • Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs such as ADHD, ASD and SEMH.
  • Ability to understand a range of facts and information quickly and make safe decisions.
  • Embrace change, viewing it as an opportunity to learn and develop.
  • Demonstrate respect for people’s dignity and provide compassionate care.
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility and be accountable for own decisions.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to adapt communication style to the needs of the individual, and if necessary through signs and symbols.
