Job Description

Ford & Stanley Interim- The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting several Train Assemblers to join a leading global Rolling Stock Manufacturing company based at their Newport facility.The OpportunityThis is an opportunity to work for a company who have become international market leaders in the design, manufacture, maintenance and supply of equipment and components for rail systems. The Company has a significant presence throughout the UK.Contract Length: 6 monthsLocation (s): Newport, WalesKey Role and ResponsibilitiesThe Assembly Operative is a member of a team responsible for carrying out various assembly procedures, including fitting components across mechanical and electrical tasks within a Production environment to achieve the fully built vehicle.

  • Follows specifications and other appropriate instructions and/or procedures to accurately assemble components on a train using a variety of tools and equipment. This will include, but is not limited to, mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, and fitting safety critical parts.
  • Support quality, productivity, and process improvement initiatives
  • Carry out lean production activities.
  • Record and report faults to relevant areas of production.
  • Perform work quality checks to ensure product meets quality and safety standards.
  • Maintain all equipment according to maintenance plans and procedures.
  • Carry out problem solving and troubleshooting techniques as part of a team responsible for realising continuous improvement to products and processes.
  • Undertake training relevant to the role and across teams to provide resource/skills and supports/ works in other areas as may be necessary.
  • Train and act as a mentor to others on process and job role requirements.
  • Ensure all records (manual and digital) are completed correctly and on time.
  • Carry out routine daily maintenance and safety checks.
  • Pro-actively seek out process improvements and efficiency savings, recommending to line manager where improvements can be made or costs reduced.
  • The CandidateThe ideal candidate will ideally have worked in a similar position within a highly regulated industry- ideally Rolling Stock, Aerospace or Automotive.Essentials
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in related field
  • Manually dexterous, with mechanical/electrical quality aptitude
  • High attention to detail and able to perform repetitive tasks well
  • Able to use a variety of machines and hand tools
  • Able to work autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Able to respond and adapt to changing circumstances, and stay focused and motivated in a pressured environment
  • Able to take a proactive approach to manage and provide solutions to problems in a climate of continuous improvement
  • Knowledge and experience of promoting safe working practices in a safety critical workplace
  • Able to maintain accurate records.
  • Strong track record of delivering targets and projects on time.

  • IOSH qualification or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Current First Aid at Work qualification.
