Research OfficerNewportAbout UsWe are Qualifications Wales, the independent organisation responsible for regulating general and vocational qualifications in Wales. We focus on publicly funded qualifications, including GCSEs, A levels and vocational qualifications.We are currently looking for two Research Officers to join us, one on a permanent basis and the other for an 18 month contract.The Benefits- Salary of £30,600 - £37,410 per annum- Flexible working- Civil service pension scheme- 30 days’ annual leave (pro rata) plus public holidays and up to three days’ office closure at ChristmasThe RoleAs a Research Officer, you will join our Research and Statistics team who are tasked with developing and delivering research and statistics in support of our principal aims in relation to qualifications and the qualification system in Wales.Your role will involve delivering research, engagement and consultations to the Research Team and the wider organisation. Providing advice on assessment and qualification research and statistics, you will support an objective evidence base that aids regulatory and policy decision-making about qualifications in Wales.Additionally, you will take full responsibility for small in-house exercises and contribute to larger commissioned studies or programmes of research.About YouTo be considered as a Research Officer, you must have at least one of the following:- Hold or expect to obtain a minimum of a 2:1 in an undergraduate degree in a relevant social science subject that included a substantial element of research methods training- Hold a minimum of 2:2 in an undergraduate degree and hold or expect to obtain a postgraduate qualification in a social science related discipline- At least four years’ social research practice experience which has included designing, managing and conducting research in a research agency, market research agency or specialised research team (for this route you must make explicit the breadth and depth of your research experience and skills)You will also need:- Experience of designing and conducting small scale research projects- Experience of summarising research conducted by other people- A sound understanding of good practice in research and professional standards- Good knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative research methodsExperience of reviewing and providing feedback on research completed by other people would be beneficial to your application. An understanding of the education sector across the UK would also be an advantage, as would knowledge of research in education.The ability to speak and work in Welsh as well as English would be desirable, as would a working knowledge of software that is used in research.Other organisations may call this role Research Associate, Graduate Research Officer, Researcher, Educational Researcher, Project Researcher, or Research and Statistics Officer.The closing date for this role is midday on the 19th April 2021.
