Job Description

Requirement for a Production Line Manager to work for a leading manufacturer in the rolling stock industry, delivering a new fleet of trains according to strict timescales while reporting locally into the Head of Production and Internationally to the ProjectManager.SituationFord & Stanley Recruitment are partnered with a leader in the international market for the design, manufacture, maintenance and supply of equipment and components for railway systems. Due to structural changes in the way projects are beingworked upon, the requirement needed for a Production Line Manager is integral to managing the success of the project.International travel will be required for onboarding and upskilling, these periods will be broken down into manageable chunks but the successful candidate needs to understand that over 2024, they could be spending 2-3 months in total in Spain.Key Responsibilities

  • To represent Manufacturing in the Core team during the series of manufacturing phase, taking responsibility for manufacturing costs, analysing them and reporting their forecasts to the Project Programme Manager.
  • Responsible for compliance with deadlines for the Manufacturing activities based on the Program Plan, including reporting progress.
  • Is available to work in at other locations, including Spain.
  • Participates in the management of Risks and Opportunities within the Core Program Team.
  • Complies with the responsibilities assigned in MGCAF process, in which he/she carries out his/her activities, in terms of Product Quality and Safety, Occupational Risk Prevention, and the Environment, in line with the role performed at any given time.
  • Monitor the production process in line with the finite production schedule whilst focusing on right first time, and on-time delivery.
  • Provide support in developing, reviewing, and monitoring the HSE Plan, objectives, and targets.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and implement improvements to production activities to optimise results.
  • Promote the effective use of team Kaizen boards and drive SCRA/CEDAC methodologies (problem solving techniques).
  • Anticipate and address customer issues; implementing solutions that maintain good relations and world class service standards.
  • Lead a high performing and motivated production line(s).
  • Manage key business KPIs around QCD to deliver an effective output in line with the planned takt.
  • Coach and develop reports and team leaders based around the production system.
Location: Newport.Working Practice: Monday – Friday – Full time Onsite. Travel (including international) will be required to other locations.Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 (dependent upon experience)Agreed Criteria for candidates to secure interview
  • HNC minimum engineering qualification or ILM L5 and above with manufacturing experience.
  • Production line management experience in a complex assembly environment – minimum 12 months (with degree) or 2+ years in a leadership position.
  • Experience of lean principles.
