Job Description

Job title: Animal Centre ManagerLocation: Newport Animal Centre, Wales NP18Salary: Competitive plus onsite accommodation Hours: 35 hours per week Plus overnight cover 14 nights out of 28 (onsite accommodation provided)Closing date: Open until filled Are you an experienced operational manager with a passion for animal welfareWe’re recruiting an Animal Centre Manager for our Newport Animal Centre where we have facilities for cats, dogs, rabbits and other small domestic animals - at any one time we can have up to 100 animals in our care!Our animals have been rescued by our Inspectors from neglect or from suffering bad treatment by their previous owners. When they arrive at our centres some can often be nervous of strangers or have little socialisation skills.As the Centre Manager you will be responsible for managing staff and volunteers to support our mission in providing rehabilitation for animals and finding their safe forever homes by running a successful centre.For our Centre Manager role we are looking for a strong leader with excellent organisational and communication skills, who has a sound understanding of animal welfare issues, and demonstrable experience in staff and volunteer management, as well as budget management.What you’ll be doing:

  • Recruiting, training and managing staff and volunteers
  • Overseeing the centre’s finances
  • Taking responsibility for the health and safety of staff, volunteers and the general public visiting the animal centre
  • Ensuring animal welfare standards are maintained
  • Ensuring all buildings, equipment, vehicles and grounds are adequately maintained and secure
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure the effective running of the centre and coordination with other aspects of the RSPCA’s work
  • Maximising fundraising and income generation opportunities at the centre
  • Ensuring good PR at the centre through liaison with local media
  • Ensuring all users both internal and external receive excellent customer care
  • You’ll have:
  • A level or equivalent and GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
  • A full driving licence
  • Animal handling and husbandry experience
  • Experience with budget and financial management
  • Fundraising experience
  • Media and communications experience
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills with advanced customer care
