Job Description

Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Experts are working with CAF Rail UK to source an Activation Manager for the Assembly Plant in Newport, who will be responsible for the team that provides the day-to-day scheduling and delivery of materialand/or equipment from the supply chain. A business area that is integral to keeping production running and delivering CAFs state of the art new trains on time.The Opportunity- This is the opportunity to play an integral part in the delivery of the brand-new fleet of trains, made in Wales, for Wales. Reporting directly into the UK Supply Chain Director for CAF Rolling Stock, the Activation Managermust define an integrated supply strategy to ensure that parts supply flows seamlessly from the suppliers site to point of use. A key requirement is to identify and manage supply-chain and supplier dependencies resultant from but not limited to engineeringchange, BOM inaccuracies, free issue parts and NCRS.Location: Newport, Wales.Role and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the materials required are scheduled & delivered in accordance with the on-going build programme and stipulated lead times.
  • Ensure the Activation team provide transparency of supply chain status for the CAF Newport Facility
  • Interface with CAF Activation teams, in Spain, to collect high quality supplier data for CAF Newport. Ensuring the team are collecting data and challenging outcomes to ensure suppliers managed by CAF colleagues in other teams, provide the data and materialflow to the CAF Newport production programme requirements.
  • Interface directly with Production and Project colleagues to communicate supply chain status for CAF Newport and align with production, procurement, logistics, quality & engineering to ensure that materials are delivered to the required timescales to supportvehicle production schedules.
  • Where necessary, interface directly with Customers to communicate supply chain status for CAF Newport.
  • Identify supply chain risks, determine appropriate mitigation actions and ensure deployment within the supply chain.
  • For suppliers with significant arrears, ensure recovery plans are in place for those suppliers managed directly or ensure appropriate recovery plans are in place via CAF colleagues.
  • Maintain & manage CAF BAAN MRP / ERP system to reflect material requirements based on project build and suppliers lead times.
  • Manage supplier non-conformance to CAF standards, ensuring non-conforming material is managed effectively and rapidly, in line with Production and Quality requirements
  • Design and provide a link between CAF Newport and the vertically integrated internal CAF manufacturing supply chain, to ensure a transparent flow of information and a well-managed flow of material between CAF overseas facilities and CAF Newport.
  • Identify and pre-empt supply chain risk by taking appropriate action during pre-production, build and end of project.
  • Participate in the engineering change forum to report risk of modification to parts in stock and possible delays / risk to production / potential commercial implication.
  • Establish high level contacts within the supply chain and be the first level of escalation for activation team in the event of supply issues.
  • Have a 360 view on parts & suppliers status which may impact the production plan.
  • Be proficient in understanding suppliers production processes to interrogate production bottle necks and seek resolution where required.
  • Provide mentoring and escalation point for activation team.
  • Develop a skills management approach and training plan for Activation UK to close any gaps in knowledge.
The Candidate: Academic:
  • Degree educated, ideally in Business, Engineering or Materials Management
  • CIPS Membership is desirable.
Professional:
  • Experience of supply chain management in a similar level role.
  • Excellent user knowledge of SAP / MRP systems, experience with BAAN would be advantageous.
  • Previous people management experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience and understanding of production KPIs.
  • Able to build supplier relationships.
  • Able to provides solutions in a climate of continuous improvement.
  • Able to make decisions on the best course of action.
  • Plans, organises, prioritises and balances resources to achieve actions.
  • Maintains accurate records.
