Job Description

Here at DS Smith we have an exciting opportunity available for a Production Manager at our flagship site in Fordham. This is a vital role that involves managing the manufacturing process, working closely with site leadership and meeting customer delivery and quality expectations, whilst maximising and continuously improving manufacturing efficiencies and minimising costs.If you think this role sounds interesting, please consider the following…

    • If the answer to the questions above is YES, then we want to hear from you!What being a Production Manager at DS Smith will involve:The key elements of the role include the overall running of the Production function and development of the department to deliver the site’s production plan in line with Divisional/Group initiatives, and management of strong relationships with internal stakeholders, . Some of the key responsibilities associated with the role will include the following;
  • Coordination of the team’s work activities, making decisions that will delight customers and exceed expectations. This means having responsibility for monitoring and reporting of KPIs, focusing on safety, waste, OTIF, quality, complaints and DPPM analysis.
  • Driving continuous improvement and problem solving in the team using the "DS Smith Way" framework.
  • Effective monitoring of process performance to ensure that we can deliver on our production plans.
  • Ownership of HSER standards and processes.
  • Direct management of senior production team members - including performance management, absence management, and reporting.
  • Managing the annual performance review process, constantly identifying learning and development requirements for direct reports.
  • Identifying, investigating and resolving any general management issues that come up, then supporting the team so that an environment of trust and support is built.
  • Communication with the team to ensure clear understanding of the business goals, and extending the collaborative working culture across DS Smith.
    • What we would like our candidate to have:
  • Strong management/supervisory experience in a unionised manufacturing environment.
  • Engineering or Technical background - a related degree would be desirable.
  • Awareness of current SHE and employment legislation/standards.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Techniques.
  • Understanding of lean processes
  • Ability to lead and inspire teams, through clear communication and people management.
  • Exposure to change management processes.
  • Budget management/cost control awareness.
