Job Description

UK Biobank have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Radiographer to join their team based in Newcastle Upon Tyne.Location: Newcastle Upon TyneSalary: £32,544 to £34,551 per annum depending on experience with annual salary reviewsHours: 36 hour per week; 3 shifts over a 7 day week12 month fixed term contract - maternity coverAll salaries reviewed annuallyWould you like to play a part in the world’s largest Medical Imaging programmeUK Biobank is an international health resource of unparalleled scale. We hold a wide range of samples and health related information provided by our 500,000 volunteer participants, and make these available to researchers across the world for approved health-related research.Ten thousand researchers are already using UK Biobank samples and data to improve our understanding of a wide range of serious and life-threatening illnesses from COVID-19 to dementia. Over 1,500 scientific papers based on UK Biobank data have already been published in leading scientific journals.In support of our mission to make the resource ever more powerful for scientific research, we are currently progressing the world’s largest imaging study and have already acquired brain, heart and abdomen MRI, DEXA bone density, and carotid artery ultrasound scans on 50,000 volunteers – half way to our target of 100,000 people.This is a powerful resource in its own right but also makes UK Biobank uniquely positioned to support COVID-19 related research and, over the next 6 months, we will be running a short repeat imaging study to capture the effects of past COVID-19 infection on major body organs. This will generate a unique set of pre- and post- infection images to inform research into this new disease.After completion of this sub-study we will return to our primary imaging study and, beyond that, we are planning a larger longitudinal repeat imaging project of up to 60,000 participants.Senior Radiographer - The Role:To support this exciting project, we are now looking to recruit Senior Radiographers to join our existing team in Newcastle.It is essential for all applicants to have well rounded postgraduate experience. MRI, Dexa or Ultrasound skills are highly desirable for the role.Successful candidates can expect onsite training in MRI brain (including fMRI), MRI cardiac and abdomen, DEXA and Ultrasound protocols as well as sessions delivered by subject matter experts, including our in-house MR Physicist and Christie’s Medical Physics.Working 3 days per 7 day week (pro-rata share of weekends; no on-call or night working) within a friendly, supportive environment, and with 6.8 weeks of annual leave per year (including Christmas & Easter shutdowns) you can contribute to a world leading study whilst also enjoying a fantastic work-life balance.
