Job Description

The Company:We are thrilled to be supporting one of our favourite clients in the NE in their search for a newly created Senior Operations Manager to join their successful Warehouse and Distribution team. Our client is experiencing significant growth and this is a fantasticopportunity for an experienced Warehouse Operations Manager to get involved in some great projects as well as running a successful distribution operationThe Role:From the 270k+ sqft distribution centre, you will be managing, inspiring, and motivating a number of Departmental Managers and Shift Supervisors to achieve operational excellence, high employee engagement and service improvement. As the operational lead, youwill be responsible for delivering operational excellence and outstanding customer service. Your role will form an integral part of the Distribution leadership team and as such will require role modelling behaviour, and strong and clear communication skillswith all levels of the business. The role will require a practical, pragmatic and hands on leadership style and a clear focus on results driven continuous improvement and customer service.Some of the key focus areas for the role will be:

  • Develop and implement a performance management process, currently very difficult due to cross picking in different areas
  • Increase in the number of permanent WH operatives to reduce the reliance on agency staff
  • Review and analyse the recent ERP upgrade as there are still challenges with this from an operations standpoint
  • Provide guidance and support to the whole warehouse team
The Person:The successful candidate will ideally have experience working in a variety of warehouse environments from wholesale and retail to ecommerce, drop ship and export. They will also work collaboratively to provide the excellence in service for which our clientare renowned.Some of the key skills and attributes we are looking for are:
  • Demonstrable experience of running a successful multi-functional FMCG distribution centre.
  • A minimum of 10+ years warehouse management experience.
  • Experience of managing a workforce in excess of 120 FTE plus additional seasonal staff.
  • Experience in a brand led, consumer focused blue chip company is desirable.
  • Experience of setting department objectives/KPIs and assessing on-going performance of the DC management team.
  • A Logistics and Transport qualification would be advantageous, but not essential.
  • Extensive people management experience, managing a broad team of different levels and capabilities
  • Ability to work well in a busy environment and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to challenge conventional methodology and deliver new ways of working in a culture of continuous improvement.
