Job Description

BPDTS. Digital People.We are looking for a Senior level Software or Application Engineer to join our Integration team. Youll be working with OpenText Exstream; youre a specialist with this application.Youll need creative and technical skills in OTX development and be able to provide expertise in using the application in support of a large-scale production environment.BPDTS Ltd provides dedicated services to the Department for Work and Pensions. Our digital, data and technology specialists work closely with experts in DWP Digitals community to make digital services quicker, simpler and more efficient for the millions of people that use them.In BPDTS our people are our biggest asset. We harness and develop their expertise so we can design, build and run secure and intuitive digital services used by 20 million UK citizens, often during critical times in their lives.You and your roleYoull be working on one of our flagship digital projects, delivering Personal Independence Payments (PIP) products and services with and for DWP.Youll be part of a small team initially, responsible for the development of notifications generated by the PIP system. This may be expanded to development of notifications for other systems. Your work will transform how users and government interact and will impact many millions of people.As our Senior Application Engineer you will act as technical lead for NGS projects, including assigning tasks, coordinating efforts, and monitoring performance.You will work closely with OpenText and internal IT development teams to solve complex issues and be responsible for relaying pertinent information to team members and implementing any changes or enhancements as necessary. And with Delivery Management in preparing high-level project plans.Youll be a great fit for our team if you have a positive outlook and an insatiable appetite for learning and sharing skills and best practice, independently and in collaboration with other digital experts on our agile, multi-disciplinary teams.Your role will also include:

  • Ensuring proper analysis of problems and programming approaches to prevent rework and schedule slippage.
  • Writing and/or reviewing design documentation and system specifications
  • Facilitating stakeholder communications and supporting product owners
  • Participating in design meetings and design decisions.
  • Making recommendations on development of new code or reuse of existing code.
  • Contributing to estimations, impact assessments, project updates, and project plans
  • Evaluating information on factors such as customer requirements & delivery dates
  • Transforming business requirements in technical solutions
  • Building and testing Exstream applications; developing and configure custom components
  • Completing unit testing and support system and integration testing.
    • What skills, knowledge and experience do you need
  • Opentext Exstream Designer/Design Manager v16.4 (particularly Templates, Object, Rules, Variables and creation of Output).
  • VB Script
  • Production of Batch scripts
  • Packaging, delivery and storage of the application.
  • Knowledge of Exstream Installation and upgrade process, including licence requirements and associated products
  • SQL Server Management Studio
  • XML Spy for creating XSD and XML structure. Ability to map Columnar, Delimited, and XML data files
  • Setting up and maintaining batch environments for OpenText Exstream
  • Familiar with inserts and barcode setup
  • Understanding of report file and variable reset timing
  • Different output formats AFP & PDF

  • Software Engineering collaboration tools like Jira, Confluence, Slack
  • Behaviour Driven Development with tools like Cucumber
  • Experience modifying and maintaining systems/code developed by others
  • Experience building public facing and internal REST
