Pharmacy Manager | Newcastle Hospital | Salary up to £52,500 per annum dependent on experience Nuffield Health is Britains largest not-for-profit healthcare organisation. With a Good CQC rating, we have 27 en-suite private bedrooms, 3 state-of-the-art operating theatres and a dedicatedbreast care unit. We also offer on-site pathology services and diagnostic imaging including CT and MRI, to help patients after surgery we have on-site physiotherapy specialists.We have a special focus in the areas of orthopaedics, spinal surgery, ophthalmology, weight loss surgery and cosmetic treatment.We pride ourselves on delivering patient care of the highest standard. Thats why we are looking for the very best healthcare professionals to join our team.The Opportunity To manage the Pharmacy Department, ensuring the delivery of a high quality pharmacy service, including the provision of professional advice to clinical staff and consultants as requiredAs a Pharmacy Manager, you will:

  • Provide leadership and advice on medicines management to ensure that processes across all clinical departments throughout the hospital are safe, cost effective and legal and are supported by up to date policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Chair the Medicines Management and Medical Gas Committee Meeting on a bimonthly basis.
  • As the Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead, optimise the management of antimicrobials to minimise the occurrence of hospital acquired infections by ensuring pharmacy adherence to up to date policies, guidelines and systems of work.
  • Undertake regular audit of this in conjunction with the IP nurse/nurse team.
  • Undertake a daily ward round reconciling medication for new inpatients; counselling patients; managing Patient Own Medications and checking for relevant allergies, adverse drug reactions and contra-indications to treatment, ensuring all medicines prescribedare clinically appropriate in line with national and/or local policies and guidelines etc.
  • Assist in facilitating timely and informed discharge of patients returning to primary care by dispensing, accuracy checking and clinically checking TTOs as well as counselling patients prior to discharge.
  • Lead on the implementation of medication safety alerts and drug recalls for the hospital working closely with the Matron and Quality Lead.
  • Implement and monitor DoH guidance on all aspects of controlled drugs use in the hospital and ensure the CD audit is completed quarterly.
  • Ensure errors, complaints and incidents are managed in line with the Nuffield Health guidelines, specifically reporting these using the Datix system and reviewing/investigating relevant Datix reports relating to medicines.
  • To ensure processes for stock management are delivered and comply with Nuffield Health policies and procedures
The Person:To succeed as a Pharmacy Manager you will need:
  • To be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Proven experience in the provision of clinical pharmacy services
  • Excellent People Management and Leadership skills/experience.
  • Excellent communication and team working skills - this is essential as you will be working closely with patients as well as a variety of clinical staff
  • Strong Budgetary Management skills
  • To have experience with training and development of staff
  • Experience of pharmaceutical care to relevant specialist areas in a hospital environment
