Job Description

Protocol Education are currently seeking Post Graduates to work as a Teaching/ Learning Support Assistant in a local Secondary school in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK). Your role will consist of providing 1:1 and group support to with children with Special Needsand Disabilities (SEND).The school we are working with isrecognised by OFSTED, parents and visitors as being an exceptionally nurturing and caring school.As aschool in the heart of the community, they take a more personalised approach to the care and guidancethey provide, and are committed to recruiting staff who are prepared to go the extra mile.You must be available to work Monday- Friday (Full-time) and will need an Enhanced DBS (£38)/ be willing to obtain one to get cleared. This is a great opportunity for anyone considering a career in Teaching or Educational Psychology, for example, to gain experience whilst being paid in a rewarding setting.The role:

  • Supporting children with SEND on a 1:1 and small group basis.
  • Ensuring that the pupils can integrate as fully as possible in the activities generally undertaken by the other children in the class and make progress.
  • To develop knowledge of the particular needs of the children and seek advice from the SENCo, class teacher and outside agencies as required.
  • Provide positive reinforcements, praise and rewards to pupils.
  • Motivate pupils to learn and be sociable.
  • To understand and apply the school policies on learning and behaviour, and the statutory guidelines relating to disability discrimination and special educational needs.
  • To maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the pupils needs but have regard to the safeguarding procedures of the school.
The ideal candidate will:
  • Hold a university degree
  • Have an Enhanced DBS/ be willing to obtain one
  • Be able to work Monday-Friday (term time)
  • Have a supporting and encouraging manner with young children
