They provide training and create jobs, reduce energy use and waste, re-connect people with nature and transform whole neighbourhoods.About The Programme: What is NCSThe National Citizen Service (NCS) is a youth development programme aimed at increasing integration and social cohesion in wider society. In the summer and autumn, young people of diverse backgrounds engage in a range of hands-on, group activities.The first phase is aimed at challenging the young people using team building, problem solving and widening comfort zones. In the second phase, the emphasis shifts toward building life skills, taking part in enterprise challenges, and exploring the worldof work and personal development. In the third phase, young people work together to design and deliver a social action project in their local community aimed at addressing specific local needs.About the roleThe charity is recruiting Wave Leaders to lead and co-ordinate NCS Summer programmes. They will support a staff team in guiding teams of up to 16 young people aged 16-17 through the NCS programme. As a Wave Leader you will lead and inspire a "wave" of youngpeople and seasonal staff. You will be responsible for the safeguarding and pastoral care of young people on your wave, effectively line manage and coach seasonal staff, and oversee programme logistics. You will work throughout the residential and non-residentialphases of the programme. You will work closely with and be supported by core staff. You will also be expected to complete all relevant paperwork and close down checks.The Wave Leader will be a positive role model, able to coach and motivate a team of diverse young people. Your role will be to support and maximise the learning for all participants throughout the NCS Programme.As an Wave Leader you will be instrumental in creating a safe, positive, and life-changing experience for a team of young people over a two-week programme. You will support young peoples development on the NCS programme by providing pastoral care, helpingto deliver inclusive curriculum sessions, and helping young people in implementing a social action project.This is a rewarding and demanding role, suitable for those with an enthusiasm for youth development, the ability to show empathy and have a great work ethic and who are invested in the development of young people.This role is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure endorsed by the Disclosure and Barring Service.More about the roleWeek 1: This week is delivered on a residential basis at Dukeshouse Wood, on a full-time basis and takes place over five consecutive full-time days. During the first week you will build positive relationships with your team of young peoplealongside other staff. You will support young people on their NCS journey where they will be pushed outside their comfort zone through challenging activities whilst helping them build on their personal and social development skills through a variety of engagingworkshops focused around enterprise, employability, confidence and independent living etc.Week 2: In week 2 young people take part in a minimum of thirty hours of making a difference in their local community. Its time to put all the skills they have learnt in week one to the test by tackling a project that they are passionateabout and can take ownership of whilst supporting local communities & organisations. NCS provides a platform where young people can stand out from the crowd and have a voice. It provides an opportunity to do some good in the places that matter most. The programmemay only last 2 weeks but what they get out of it will set them up for lifes great journey.You can have the option of working three programmes back-to-back.
