Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation. Our client, a blue-chip IT company, is currently seeking an Infrastructure Support Specialist II based on their customer site between Wynyard, Billingham and Doxford,Sunderland. This is a Full-time, permanent role to start ASAP. Working 9.00am - 5.15pm Monday - Friday 37.5 hours a week, the role is paying up to £26,000 per annum **SC national security clearance is preferred this can be progressed by the business for the right successful candidate.**Our client are part of a team providing network and infrastructure support across two large data centres in Sunderland and Billingham. The work is varied, on multiple hardware types and primarily during core office hours although they will be a requirementto provide out of hours support, you will be given a work schedule to show which site you will be working at, you must be able to work at both sites!Responsibilities

  • Provide Installation / Move / Add / Change support in the data centre for scheduled work.
  • On-site operational support for break fix incidents on multiple hardware types.
  • Installation/Decommission of structured cabling and patching.
  • Liaising with specialist remote teams to configure IT equipment on multiple hardware platforms.
  • Troubleshooting connectivity issues including trunk cabling, patching and configuration issues.
  • Engineer may be requested to provide services outside of core business hours as part of change management for planned interventions
  • Coordinate and manage escalations with supplementary service providers and account teams.
  • Provide out of hours support, via an on-call rota, for incident/break fix issues.
  • Maintain data centre documentation including patch schedules and asset inventories.
Skills and experience
  • Valid driving license as there is travel between the two sites
  • Ability to apply subject matter knowledge to resolve support issues.
  • Experience of network and server troubleshooting.
  • Ability to use tools and measurements which are compliant with cabling certification process for fibre and copper.
  • Ability to look for opportunities to improve existing processes and workflow designs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications; ability to listen and interface with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and react to situations with a sense of urgency and problem ownership.
  • Hardware installation/racking, patching and base configuration.
  • Knowledge of various vendor equipment including Cisco, HP, Dell, Checkpoint, F5 and Riverbed
  • Basic knowledge of AC/DC voltage.
  • Ability to adhere to strict data centre guidelines and processes
  • As the role is based across two data centres, the nature of work dictates that a driving license and access to a vehicle is essential.
  • Technical associates degree or equivalent industry recognised qualification such as CCNA or MCSE.
  • Working knowledge of protocol analysis tool.
  • Intermediate troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Uses quantitative data to draw conclusions.
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to utilize computerised work order systems to perform issued work orders.
  • UTP and Fibre optic cabling installation, testing, and repair
  • SC national security clearance is preferred This will be progressed by the business for the successful candidate.
