Job Description

Business Unit: Financial Control, FinanceSalary range: up to circa £45,000 DOELocation: FlexibleContract Type: PermanentJoin the data revolution!Across Financial Control, were looking to invest in the skills that we need to deliver our digital and innovation agenda. We have a range of roles across a range of data disciplines at a range of levels, including some short training-based secondments forthose looking to dip a toe into a whole new world.This role is at the intermediate level here, were looking for some experience in using data for reporting purposes but not for experts. You will need to be able to evidence that youve run data processes, reviewed controls and helped to identify issuesand provide assistance with solutions.Training in this role will be on the job, more than classroom so you will be getting off to a fast start, creating reports and building datasets from the first week. You will be working agile but with a team of experienced colleagues.   • Building new reporting applications for customers across Finance
  • Preparing and creating trusted data using SAS, SQL or similar tools
  • Creating data profiling tools and application
  • Make our data controls stronger and change those of the Group for the better
  • Provide continuous support for the existing services that we provide
  • Building a data control framework within Financial Control
  • Role modelling great data practice for our Finance colleagues
  • Carry out regular data tasks
  • Represent the Financial Control function in data strategy sessions
  • Training non-specialists to love data the way that you do
The team youll be joining has had lots of skilled people in lots of different disciplines - ranging from former summer school drama teacher, tennis umpire, mum, SQL experts, central banking economist, singers, central bankers, football coach, statisticalmodelling experts, dad, econometricians, service personnel, rocket scientists, cooks, farmers, golfers, taxi drivers. We speak at least four languages, have been on television lots and live all over the country. Some of us work 9-5 and others dont work Wednesdays.We love working a Life More Virgin (and not always at home or in the office).The team will be relied on for technical excellence and reliable outputs so quality assurance and attention to detail are key to how we work so well together. Our outputs are seen by our exec, our board, our shareholders, our customers and the whole world.We already own a robust process that runs without fail every month and we fit perfectly into the wider reporting cycles of the Group when we need to.What we need from you for this role is
  • Some relevant application experience or something equivalent.
    • If Excels your thing, then wed be looking for some Visual Basic or Power Query experience. If its SQL , SAS, Python or R, then well be asking for some code that youve created yourself.
  • An aptitude to pick up programming and/or application building quickly
  • Experience of determining priorities
    • You will be expected to participate in the planning process as well as to deliver work.
  • An understanding of the value of data quality and practical experience of improving it
    • We want to drive the move for the Group to better data quality management from the inside
  • A love of innovation
    • Our work will largely be new, and our solutions driven by value, rather than process. This will mean that often we will need some imagination.
