Job Description

We are seeking to employ a Post-Doctoral level Experimental Officer with research experience in molecular biology, next generation sequencing and the application of genomics. They will join NU-OMICS, the Northumbria University DNA sequencing research facility hosting; Illumina, Pacific Biosciences and Oxford Nanopore sequencing technologies with supporting Hamilton liquid handling. NU-OMICS provides consultancy for internal and external academic partners alongside industry at a regional, national and international. Our core research/consultancy focuses on small genomes, microbial community studies, untargeted metagenomics and RNA sequencing projects of both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. We are a research led service and therefore we provide consultancy and collaboration on projects using DNA/RNA sequencing outside of these domains. We seek an individual that is able to both work in a wet lab environment, but also support the analysis of data relating to their research experience.Working within the Technical Support Team, and closely with research active staff, you will demonstrate complicated techniques around genome biology and DNA/RNA sequencing and the use of specialist equipment to staff, undergraduate and post graduate students in support of research, learning and teaching within the Department. You will assist in the appropriate planning of the laboratory support service and the development of the NU-OMICS facility and services offered by the university.
