Job Description

Development Scientist - Cell based assays for drug developmentTEC Partners are recruiting for an exciting Biotech company based in Newcastle, who are aiming to transform drug discovery by developing the best in vitro biology to mimic and predict how new drugs interact with human tissues and organs.The company has unique capabilities in the development and commercialisation of 2-D and 3-D (organoid) in vitro assays and they work with global pharmaceutical companies to provide important data on the safety, pharmacology and efficacy of new therapies.They are currently focused on four tissue platforms; kidney, retina, liver and lung.They are looking for a talented and passionate individual to work on projects across their liver assay platform. You will be working as part of a team of development scientists and technicians on developing an iPSC derived model of the human liver sinusoid for applications in virus vaccines, liver toxicity, disease modelling and drug transport.The job is located at modern laboratories close to the centre of the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.Development Scientist Responsibilities:

  • Developing in vitro cell based liver sinusoid model for a range of applications
  • Developing individual and team work plans and ensuring delivery to deadlines
  • Contributing to the scientific and technology development of the company
  • Presenting results and outcomes to customers and at conferences as required
  • Development Scientist Profile: Essential:
  • Completion of PhD studies or 3+ years industry developing in vitro cell based models of the liver or similar organs
  • Experience of developing in vitro assays
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of the team, and develop and implement work plans over 3-12 months working towards strategic objectives for the platform
  • Prior experience of mammalian tissue culture (preferably human iPSCs)
  • Experienced in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, RT-qPCR, Western blotting, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, fluorescent microscopy
  • Experience in IT and statistical analysis
  • Track-record of contributing in a team environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Desirable:
  • Prior experience in operating under quality management systems
  • Managed and trained laboratory based staff
  • Experience of building cell-based models for industrial application
