Brierley J have been retained by a leading conservation and restoration contractor who are looking to appoint a Contracts Manager to their management team.Following privatisation in the mid 90’s the company has gone from strength to strength enabling them to work as principal contractor on large conservation projects. They have an in house team of craftsmen which are supported by professional qualified office and project management teams. They have a financial turnover of £7 million with over 80 employees, have low staff turnover and maintain a culture of promoting from within. Projects vary from 100K to £6 million. They have worked on some prestigious projects including Seaton Delaval Hall, Alnwick Castle and St Nicholas Catherdral.Due to a steady increase in project workload an opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Contracts Manager to join the team. You will be involved with projects from inception in order for you to take full ownership of delivery. On top of the usual day to day challenges of managing multiple projects, the real challenge of this role is understanding the Heritage sector. Full training will be provided as well as support from experienced managers internally to enable a full transition into the role.There will be a variety of projects to deliver across the North of England so travelling will be a requirement. Additionally managing the people involved in projects, from specialist trades to the subcontractors, to ensure you get the most out of them is an essential part of this role.Experience requiredTo be considered for this role you need to have had over five years’ experience in a Contracts Manager capacity for a main contractor or within a specialist field managing projects between £100K - £5 million. The projects are typically JCT and NEC and require the production of complex multi trade programmes.Experience of working on historical buildings would be an advantage but is not essential. You need to be able to demonstrate initiative, be able to work to strict deadlines, good business acumen, be solutions focused, have a right first-time attitude, and maximise job opportunities. You need to demonstrate that you can manage multiple projects at any one time, that you can skilfully solve problematic projects and are flexible to change whether it be in the design or the construction program.ProgressionThere are aspirations for the company to continue to grow with lots of opportunities to be developed within the sector.
