Blakelaw, Newcastle Upon TyneCirca £20,700 per annum, pro rata 30hrs Part-Time, until 31st May 2021 Giving children and young people the foundations they need to thrive.The roleThe Community Family Hub (Central) is in Newcastle Upon Tyne and Action for Children deliver services from our four bases. Our aim is to deliver a range of services, including play and learning opportunities to children and their parents/carers.We are looking for a dynamic Community Café Manager who can set up and run our new community café, based within the Galafield Centre in Newbiggin Hall. The café will offer affordable and healthy meals to families and provides training and work experience to support the wider community hub. Part of your role will be to manage a team of volunteers. Your skills at engaging with the local community are as important as your catering knowledge and experience. This role is currently a fixed term basis with a possible extension.The café will be open when the hub is open 8.30am-4.30pm Monday to Saturday and your hours will be on a rota basis. We are open to discussing days and hours at interview stage although we do require a degree of flexibility depending on service needs.You will make a difference by:- Providing a safe and welcoming community café and soft play facility in line with organisational policies and procedures.- Organising and progressing the start-up of the café; menu planning and pricing; publicity; stock ordering; receiving payments and record keeping; launch of the soft play facility and to manage an allocated budget.- Organising and providing, in conjunction with colleagues, recruitment, training and support for café volunteers and sessional staff.- Leading and ensuring that all Health, Safety and Hygiene requirements are met, and volunteers and sessional staff comply with RIDDOR reporting requirements. To also ensure that systems and processes are in place to ensure Food Safety and Hygiene is managed at 5* level.You will need:- Level 2 Food Hygiene- General education to Level 2 standard (GCSE a-c)- Experience of community work and supporting peoples learning and development- Preparing and presenting a well a range of food.- Demonstrating a friendly, supportive approach to work that values and appreciate the contribution of staff and volunteers.- Experience of food handling and kitchens and food hygiene.The way we workWe work to make sure every child and young person has the love, support and opportunity they need to reach their potential.
