Job Description

Job Title: Managing DirectorLocation: Neston, CheshireSalary: £70,000 - £75,000 Plus Bonus Market:Multi-Site RetailJob Reference: NH/86157

  • Deliver sustainable improvements in sales performance, operating margin, stock management and shrinkage

The Company:
  • A proud and long-established independent retail chain, Rightway Ltd operates 19 branches across North Wales and the North West, employing 130 full and part-time staff.
  • Since 2021 the company has been 75% employee owned and this appointment is the next step in the planned exit of the founders.
  • It is an exceptional opportunity for a proven retail leader to inherit a highly successful business and take it into the next phase of growth.
The Role: Managing Director
  • Following a comprehensive induction, the new Managing Director will take full control and responsibility for the performance of Rightway Ltd, through a senior team of 3 reports.
Key Accountabilities Will Include:
  • Work with the Founders to agree a vision, strategy, measurables and budgets
  • Direct and support the senior team (of 3)
  • Report against the key measurables (cash position, trading margin, stockholding and shrinkage)
  • Supplier selection and negotiation
  • Commercial decision making
  • Plan and deliver budgets. Present monthly Management Accounts
  • Short, medium and long-term planning
  • Continuously evolve staffing structure
  • Act with authority, meet challenges head-on, embrace new opportunities
Candidate Profile: Managing Director
  • This role is well suited to an energetic people and business leader with professional experience of a multi-site retail or hospitality environment where customer service, sales performance and people leadership are paramount.
Specific Requirements:
  • Living within one hour of Neston, Cheshire
  • At least 10 years of management experience in a multi-site retail or hospitality business
  • Passionate about retail, customer service and continuous business improvement
  • A proven negotiator with experience of supplier selection and buying
  • Strong financial acumen. Able to read a balance sheet and a P&L report
  • Ideally with experience of Sage Accounting (or prepared to learn)
  • A natural leader who takes ultimate responsibility. Confronts issues. Embraces opportunities
  • Humble enough to admit mistakes. Enjoys spending time on the shop floor as well as the boardroom
  • An excellent communicator and confident public speaker
The Reward:
  • The reward package is likely to include a basic salary of £70,000 - £75,000 plus performance based bonus.
