Job Description

Motherwell, North Lanarkshire Circa £20,70037 Hours - Full-Time, Fixed Term contract, 12 monthsGiving children and young people the foundations they need to thrive.The roleNorth Lanarkshire Young Carers Service supports young carers aged 8 - 18.We support children and Young adults who help look after a mother, father, brother or sister who may be ill, disabled, Autistic, has poor mental health or who misuses drugs or alcohol. We raise awareness of Young Carers issues locally and nationally in partnership with other Local & National Carers organisations. We provide direct supports which include innovative group support programmes, individual 1:1 support, personal & emotional support, advice, and guidance & assessment through completion of individualised Young Carers Statements. We also provide various trips and activities including short breaks & longer residential breaks. We help Young Carers access specialist services & help them to access universal services such as leisure and youth services.We are looking for a Young Persons Practitioner who can work from our Motherwell service and also work from our South Lanarkshire service in Hamilton where required. This role is predominately Monday - Friday including regular evening work but there is a requirement for occasional weekend work and some overnight support during our residential stays and City breaks.You will make a difference by:.- Providing a high-quality service to children, young people, and their families, based on an assessment of need and is outcomes driven. - Showing an understanding of the issues faced by young carers.- Working as part of a team or a wider multi-disciplinary setting.- Demonstrating the ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.- Supporting and understanding transitions for children and young people.- Engaging young carers in informing service development.- Engaging in Emergency planning support with Young carers- Supporting training in subjects such as health and safety, wellbeing and life skills.- Supporting families and young carers to apply for appropriate benefits.- Supporting staff to review, plan, implement and evaluate innovative initiatives to support young carers.- Providing Information, advice and guidance, including one-to-one support and age appropriate information.You will need:- SVQ3/ HNC in Health and Social care or equivalent- Registration with the SSSC or on appointment to the role be willing to apply for registration.- Experience of working with vulnerable children and young people.- Working with children and young adults in a community setting.- Knowledge on the carers act would be advantageous- A full driving licence is essential for this post.
