Job Description

Our client, a fast-growing therapeutic business is recruiting for a talented Protein Production Scientist for their busy labs in Motherwell.This is a maternity cover role for 12 months, which may be extendable upon mutual consent. This opportunity involves performing scientific research, protein production, purification, and development activities to improve the protein product pipeline forvarious applications. The role requires critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, attention to detail and adaptability.The main requirements are:Essential:

  • Knowledge and experience in protein engineering.
  • Experience in recombinant protein expression using E.coli and yeast cell systems.
  • Purification from shaker flask cultures and from small scale fermentation (1-10L scale) to produce high quality samples.
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of purification techniques, such as affinity and SEC.
  • Experience with ÄKTA purification platform with practical knowledge of Unicorn software.
  • Experience in developing, optimising, and troubleshooting purification processes.
  • Experience in molecular biology and analysis of proteins.
  • Experience working with proteins and protein-conjugates.
  • Experience in assay development; devising and performing experiments.
  • Experience working and communicating with collaborators and industrial partners.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Maintaining excellent and timely records of all experimental work; using ELN.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Acting with a degree of autonomy.
  • Critical thinking, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and adaptability.
  • Highly organised, able to prioritise work, work well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Desirable:
  • Design of experiments in protein production and purification.
  • Basic knowledge of immunology, the complement system and fibrosis.
  • Experience in biophysical characterization of proteins.
  • Experience using instruments such as an Octet and Luminex.
